festivus for the rest of us.

saying hello to october means...
the whirlwind of the holidays begins.
it'll go something like this:

round up local "birthday" goodies to send to my
homesick nephew in oregon by the 16th.
school harvest celebrations.
decorate the house for halloween.
procrastinate, then stress about costumes
and goodie bags for school.
carve pumpkins.
HALLOWEEN.
realize that mini-she's bday is the next day.
mini-she's bday celebration.
think about starting my christmas list.
THANKSGIVING coupled with sister #2's bday.
think about starting my christmas list.
buy and decorate christmas tree.
attempt to take (minis') christmas photos for our cards.
finally make christmas list.
school christmas programs.
send out cards.
christmas get-together with girlfriends.
stress and shop.
wrap gifts.
stress and shop.
wrap gifts.
CHRISTMAS.

today's lunch...local plate lunch consisting of brown rice,
chicken katsu, and the signature warm (from sitting next to
the hot items) tossed salad.

ill-suited.

a section of mini-she's closet is storage for old work suits. some of the skirts are too short and too tight, the jackets are loose-fitting with huge shoulder pads, and the colors and styles are just outdated. however, there are two blazers that i have been able to incorporate into my current wardrobe.
both are black; one is fitted while the
other is two sizes too big oversized.

on this morning, i went to grab the oversized one and was horrified at what i saw...silverfish had chewed the entire lining of my jacket...ick! so i resorted to this one which i much prefer, anyways. it was really hot, so i took the jacket off at work and hung it over my chair for the day.
as i was getting ready to leave, i noticed
that bear had chewed up one of the sleeves while
he was sitting under my chair.
time for some new suits.

anyone remember these? it's like eating flowers...

squares and radicals.

i'm not sure why, but i was hesitant to wear this cross-laden sweater to mini-he's (christian church) preschool. i'm already the mom who wears six-inch platforms...i didn't want to be the radical mom who comes wearing crosses around my neck and
on my back, too. i'd hate to offend anyone.
turns out mini-he's teacher loved it.
she even asked where i bought it from. too funny.

this skirt has been in the alteration pile for quite some time. it's one of those sheer numbers with hot pants underneath.
i last wore it here and mentioned that i wanted to line it so that it would be work appropriate. still haven't lined it, but in desperation (of needing something to wear), i cut this slip out of another dress. it's about eight inches too short, but it worked for today. i also realized that this black slip is too dark...a nude color would better show the pretty browns and gold.

today's lunch.

till the elephants come home.

y'all know i have this thing for animal prints.
it all started with the bird printed blouses from zara, then some adorable vintage horse printed dresses spotted on fellow bloggers, as well as the one from asos.
i don't find many animals roaming around these parts of town, so when i spotted this little number,
it was a no-brainer.

tell me one of your obsessions.

homemade nachos...throw on your leftovers + lots of cheese,
nuke it in the micro till the cheese bubbles, and enjoy!

weekend news.

ok, so i finally got this DIY done.
(remember i got side-tracked and did this sweater instead?)
i'm making use of some extra tees i had in storage. the fit is huge and boxy, but it is what it is considering it's a men's XL. i'll probably continue to morph it...maybe take some material off the back and lace it up.

also, this is day old hair revived using the TRESemme Fresh Start Dry Shampoo i wrote about here. unlike other powder formulas which are messy and just feel yucky, this aerosol formula is light, smells nice, and doesn't weigh down my curls. don't forget to check out this video for your chance to win a $500 target gift card.

lastly, i am featured in Be In Style's
latest Best of the Web series.
if you haven't heard of this site, be sure to check it out. they have a plethora of information on anything and everything. style tips, baking tips, pet tips, living green tips, home ideas, baby and mama tips, outdoor activities tips...you get the point.

how was your weekend?

told you there would be a lot of birthday cake.
we threw them all together for one final celebration.

TRESemme Fresh Start Dry Shampoo. an [oomph.] discovery.

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of TRESemmé. All opinions are 100% mine.

as someone who always believed in more is better,
i religiously washed and conditioned my hair everyday to keep it shiny and healthy. little did i know that i was getting the opposite result. i learned that daily washing can actually strip your hair of the natural oils that keep it healthy.
i'm starting to take cues from fellow bloggers who swear by taking days off from washing their hair. it's these same bloggers who have beautiful, lustrous hair. now, our hot, humid weather makes it difficult to skip a day of washing; instead, i am exploring the concept of dry shampooing once a week.

TRESemme has come out with a complete line of dry shampoos to revive your style's look and feel on days you skip a shampoo. their unique formulas absorb excess oil, remove odors, and rejuvenate your hair without a drop of water. plus, the citrus extracts infused in every product leave hair with a clean and fresh scent.

the full line includes:
  • Strengthening Dry Shampoo: The formula, with B12 vitamins and keratin, helps strengthen hair and leaves it full of healthy body.
  • Volumizing Dry Shampoo: The formula, with mineral clay and citrus, removes oil while injecting hair with salon-gorgeous volume.
  • Smoothing Dry Shampoo: The formula, with Vitamin H & Silk Proteins, refreshes your straight style by removing excess oil, impurities, and odor to ensure your smooth look lasts.
  • Moisturizing Waterless Foam Shampoo: The formula, with Witch Hazel, Citrus and Aloe Vera, refreshes your hair by removing excess oil, impurities, and odor while moisturizing hair.

here's a few tips on how to get the best results from TRESemmé Fresh Start Dry Shampoo:
  • do shake vigorously before use and in between spray bursts for best results.
  • do lift sections of dry hair and spray lightly at roots.
  • don’t spray it like hair spray (all over and continuously).
  • do leave in for 1-2 minutes.
  • do use fingertips or a brush to distribute produce evenly.
  • if clogging occurs, remove nozzle and rinse the nozzle under warm water, then reattach.

YouTube-er, Tanya Burr, teamed up with TRESemme to create a tutorial on how to use TRESemme Fresh Start Dry Shampoo properly. she is also giving away a $500 Target gift card to one lucky viewer.

a whole lotta.

birthdays, that is.
this is the week of birthdays for our family.
my dad, niece, mom, and brother-in-law are all celebrating their birthdays this week. that means that this weekend will be filled with a whole lotta birthday cake.
i'm feeling sick already.

i professed a whole lotta love for this shrunken white blazer before, and i am still finding a whole lotta reasons to love it. i like how it freshens and balances a whole lotta print.

hope you all have a whole lotta fun this weekend.
happy aloha friday!

gold digger.

zara recently launched its u.s. online store.
being that we don't have a store here, i was excited
and had only two items in mind...
the pink boyfriend blazer and green skinny jeans.
everyone and their friend's sister's aunty's cousin's girlfriend's niece has these.
not me.
i wanted.
unfortunately, there was nothing of its kind on the site.
and nothing else i really wanted.
but, like any true shopaholic who finds any reason to shop, they were offering free shipping...so, i opted for these gold denims.
i didn't have to dig too far for this gold.

grilled steak salad + metromint chocolate mint water.

one hit wonder.

i used to like miss sixty clothing for its edginess.
each piece had some oomph-worthy detail.
so, i was excited when they finally opened a store here.
unfortunately, it was short-lived...probably because their stuff was really expensive and impractical for our warm weather here.
this is the one dress i snagged before they closed up shop.

nutter butter...an old favorite.

a sit down session.

this used to be my favorite hat.
i used to wear it all the time,
except that i used to wear it backwards.
think i like it this way better.

i'm off to mini-she's last volleyball game of the season. they only won two games, but they have really improved over the past month. it would be great if they ended the season with a win...fingers crossed.

thanks to all who have entered my blogaversary giveaway so far;
there's just a few more days left to enter.
as i started to compile the entries, i found that i was unable to verify some of them.
to be fair to all, please make sure that i am able to verify your entries by providing the appropriate information (gfc name that matches your avatar, twitter name, fb name, mention @rockoomph or leave links to any tweets or blog posts, etc.)
