fashion to fitness.

"it's only $1 per mile."
that's all it took for me to sign up for the honolulu marathon.
never mind that fact that it is twenty. six. miles.

i was at my friend's house for dinner one night, and somewhere between hellos and a couple drinks later, i was all in. we have been talking about training for the 8.15 mile great aloha run coming up in february, so what's another 18 miles?
but seriously, despite all my anxieties and fears about finding the time to stick to a training schedule, i'm excited. i told mini-she that i was going from fashion to fitness this year...that i was going to live and breathe fitness. trade in my stilettos for nikes, my necklaces for a pedometer, my skinny jeans for compression pants.
she's not convinced.
but look. my first marathon-training purchase...a hat to shield my face from the sun when i'm running all those miles.

just a warning that in six months, this blog may turn into a documentation of how i ran my first marathon. haha.

Fitness

and a few other things i plan to pick up along the way:
- a pedometer to track my workout miles
- lightweight sunglasses
- sunscreen
- new running shoes
- swimsuit for those cross-training workouts
- workout clothes

have you completed a marathon?
if not, do you have the desire to?
veterans...any advice on what to do or not to do?

That's so awesome!! Good for you!! I always say that the Honolulu Marathon is on my bucket list, but I am not a runner, and I have recently been battling plantars fasciitis and it is the worst!! Do you have a fit bit or fuel band?? I got a fitbit for my mom for xmas, because she walks a lot at work, and a lot of her co-workers have it. I was thinking of getting 1 for myself... Good Luck with the training and I think it will be just as awesome reading about your miles to the marathon as it is reading about your strutting in your heels!

Great post, love the new hat. I really need those leopard print Nikes in my life. I'm all about fitness this year as well and I want to run a 5k this year and maybe eventually a half marathon. Good luck with your training :)

Yes, I did a half marathon several years ago, and a full one before that and it was definitely hard work, but worth it in the end. All the best with your training and preparations. Happy New Year. :-)

Good for you! Running isn't my thing, but I just like the whole fitness thing in general. Since I started working out I feel so much better in general (my mood, etc.). Good luck with your training. Cute workout clothes always keep me motivated :)

Congratulations! It will be great!
I have run 3 Half Marathons because I am only half crazy..a joke...
I would say to please get training plans and follow as best you can. Hydrate, stretch, foam roll, ice, etc. Check out running blogs, magazines...go and have your feet properly measured for running shoes. Nikes look fly, but they might not suit your feet for running distance, etc. Your feet are like your fingerprints with regards to running, unique. I could go on and on..Check out Jeff Galloway and Hal Higdon training plans.

All the best!!

no joke...i am 100% crazy, lol! thanks for all the tips. i'll check out those training plans! glad to see you on daily mile!

My body just isn't designed to run, it's uncomfortable and actually painful after a little while, but that's alright. I admire the hell out of people who can do it, who can pull of marathons. The gumption it takes to do that is just amazing!
