the shift dress.

shift dresses are one of my favorite dress styles, because they're like a blank canvas. you can belt it, or not. add a blazer, or not. accessorize it, or not. layer it, or not. and best of all, because of its straight cut, there's no pressure to hold in your gut. that's right...wear these to breakfast buffets and thanksgiving dinners...no loosening of the belt or
unbuttoning of the pants required.

but its neutral color doesn't distract from the dress.

    Shift dresses are way cute, especially this one! I love the color, and the shoes are fabulous. I'm a proponent of fit and flare dresses myself, but my waist is well above my gut because of weird proportioning, so it looks good and is useful for disguising things like eating at Chipotle for three days straight...not that I've ever experienced that before. :p
