search is on.

this weekend, i began the task of looking for a new car.
i've had my car for eight years, so i'm totally out of the loop...there are so many new models out there. if i could take my pick, i'd go for the range rover evoque or the all-new range rover. buuuut, i don't think those are an option as long as i'm putting two minis through school. if you don't mind sharing, tell me what you drive and why you like it.

had this dress for years...one of those dresses that looked cute in the store, not so much when you got home. wanting a white dress to wear with my red plaid, i started fussing with it. seems better shorter, held in place with a hidden belt.

beef short ribs in the slow cooker...
had to sub boneless ribs, but still came out nice and tender.
1/3 cup soy sauce
1/3 c brown sugar
1/4 c rice vinegar
3 cloves garlic, smashed
1 tbl fresh grated ginger
combine above ingredients in slowcooker.
8 beef shortribs
4 med carrots, halved
add ribs and carrots in single layer.
1 small cabbage, quartered
place cabbage on top.
five-six hours on high.
remove ribs and veggies.
thicken sauce with cornstarch, add 1 tbl sesame oil.

(linen dress, guess; plaid, go jane (buy); military, thrifted; shoes, aldo)

try this look:

*dress thumbnail is black, but it does come in white.

  1. Car shopping is the worst! My mini-van is 8 yrs old so I am due soon too. Good luck with the search.

I really like this white dress with the plaid top and green jacket. It's a great mix of girly and rough. Heather

  2. I drive a SUV, Lexus RX and love it. It runs in the mid to upper 30K. There are so many cars/SUVs to choose from! I know you'll find the right one. FABULOUS dress becks! That back is exquisite!

  3. So sorry to hear about the whole car fiasco! (Hope the mini wasn't too upset about missing out on some Halloween fun) I've been driving the Honda CRV for the past 2 yrs. I wanted an SUV type w/out the massive size. I like it, but the back is filled with car seats...should have gone a little bigger.

    Good luck!!

  4. Last December we had to retire my 11 year old PT Cruiser ( I loved that car). After much deliberation (yeah, the Evoque was on my initial list too, darn budget) we went with the VW Tiguan. It's not flashy, but it's very, very nice. We also were trying to wait for the BMW X1 to be out (it's out now) but we couldn't wait that long. Good luck, it's a pain that's for sure! BTW your hair looks lovely!

  7. Curious are you looking for used or brand new? Maybe you could get a higher end model that's just a few years old?

I have dresses that looked better in the store, then only looked good in the closet when I took it home. Good for you for trying to make this white dress work! You were successful :)

  21. I've always liked the look of white with military green. Especially if white is a dress like that.

Sorry, I can't give you ANY advice on getting a new car because my hubby and I drive Hondas and we drive our cars till they completely break down. Mine is Honda Accord LX 1999 and my husband drives the same except his is older 1996 :D

the cheesecake recipe in my recent post is really easy. I am not a good cook, neither am I a good baker but this one always comes out so yummy! Maybe you should try :)

  24. I really love your dress. It is so sweet and cute. I love how you toughen it up just a little with the military jacket.

I have two cars. If I could do it over my new car would be a VW Beetle like my old car. I love that Beetle. I received it in high school and it just turned 10. I had absolutely no trouble with it until the last year and it is so adorable.

  25. I love the double layer of the tops. The white makes them pop too.
Hope you have fun with your car search. As a stay home who drive my kids all day long I have to say as cliche as it is I love my minivan. And I was the type that said 'I would never own one!'. The number one reason for me buying it: "The automatic sliding doors". But that could be because my kids are still too young to open their doors and this makes it so easy to get them in and out. Plus you work so no reason for you to drive a mini van when you are alone. So a cuter SUV would be my recommendation.

I'm afraid I can't help you choose a car. Mine is even older. We have it since '98 and I love it. My mom drives a Renault Cleo and she's really satisfied. It's small and inexpensive, and also very reliable in my opinion.

  29. Great outfit - love the ring and shoes!
I drive a BMW x5 and I love it. I am so comfortable in it and it is a beautiful car. But the number one car I would suggest is getting a Lexus. My dad is a car dealer and he always says that Lexus is the safest and most easiest car to drive. I had a lexus as my first car and really loved it, I think I will eventually get back to driving one in the next year or so. They are really great. Good luck finding the perfect car, xoxo
