aloha wear.

there's always a graduation party, mother's day brunch, or baby's first luau to go to; here, it calls for aloha attire. men show up in their best aloha shirts and women in their pretty floral dresses. me? i'm usually rocking my dark flared denim, a blouse, and my highest heels or a dress in some other graphic print. while i feel out of my comfort zone in head-to-toe florals, i know that i should own a dress that would be appropriate for these occasions. while this one isn't overloaded with florals, it still has a hawaiian feel to it. plus, i was sold on the oomph-worthy open back. the cropped denim jacket provides just enough warmth on a chilly evening without covering up too much of the dress. both are from Patty's Closet.

last year, i had my first ever pumpkin latte. i love pumpkin anything when it comes to food, but i wasn't completely sold on the seasonal drinks. while the first few sips are delicious, i find that it gets too sweet towards the bottom (unless you are constantly stirring, which i'm not), and you end up throwing half away. but, i am a sucker for holiday and seasonal traditions, and when the mood hits, i just might give in. i went out in the rain yesterday to get mini-he a happy meal, and the picture on the menu of the hot, steamy pumpkin spice latte just felt right on that chilly day, so i gave in.

how was your weekend? do you enjoy seasonal pumpkin drinks?

double denim + summer layering.

it's been uncomfortably warm lately, even in the mornings and evenings when the temperature tends to cool down. as someone who usually prefers the sun on my skin and wind in my hair, i've even had to resort to using ac in the car. lightweight jackets come in handy during the summer. paired with a paper thin blouse, i'm able to continue layering throughout these warm, summer months.

mini-he just finished a week-long kindergarten readiness class at his new school. i'm happy to report that he loves his new school and friends and had no problem separating. (whew!)
his big concerns? how come we aren't napping? i'm going to be tired. and, where's the playground? i think he'll do just fine.

what's going on in your neck of the woods?

after 18 months, our pineapples are finally ready!
i missed out on the first one since the kids gobbled
it up, but they said it was sweet.

a week of stripes. weekender.

stripes and cargos for a casual day strolling around town.
a chilly, early morning trip to the farmer's market followed by a hot cup of coffee is what i envision for a nice saturday activity. now, if only we had saturday mornings free...

if you had a free saturday, how would you spend it?

experimenting with extremes. blues.

i recently had my first jello shot. i mean, how could i resist when my neighbor served them like cute lemon wedges. after we devoured them, she proceeded to make beverages with the fruit she scooped out by throwing them into vodka + lemonade.
talk about not letting anything go to waste.

i wanted to see how many blue things i could throw into
this outfit. pretty much everything except the shoes. wait...darn...come to think of it, i do have
a pair of blue heels...haha.

looking forward to hanging out at my
friend's beach house this weekend.
what are you guys up to?

vodka-infused gummy bears and jello wedges.

here's a recipe i want to try:
pink lemonade jello shots

12 lemons
1 cup pink lemonade
2 packages plain gelatin
1 cup vodka
cupcake pan
- cut lemons in half, scoop out insides
- add lemonade to saucepan, sprinkle gelatin over juice,
let sit for 2 minutes
- heat lemonade over low heat, stir until gelatin dissolves, about 5 minutes
- stir in vodka, pour into lemons
- refrigerate, about 4 hours
- slice and enjoy

a.m. party.

with the holiday season comes holiday parties. velour, sequins, and satin are festive and sometimes thought of as formal wear...but sequins and satin paired here with denim and slippers is something i might wear to a daytime party.

foxy brown was stuck to me like glue.
this is probably the first real post with the new hair.
i made a yummy turkey chili in the slow cooker for dinner.
then headed over to my neighbor's for cake and wine.
it was a good day.

how did you spend your sunday?

before and five hours later...the easiest turkey chili.
served with a dollop of sour cream and corn muffins.

last days of summer.

seems like just yesterday i was planning all kinds of fun things to do this summer...hikes, picnics at the beach, swimming.
well, the minis are back in school and we didn't do half as
many activities as i'd hoped. here's a summer outfit plus a few photos of how we spent our last days of summer.

are you still enjoying your summer?
or are you back in full swing at school/work?

barbeques with neighbors and friends.
movies on the big screen.

a week of leggings. details.

continuing on with the week of leggings, today it's about details. when looking for black leggings, i try to find ones with little details that take it a step beyond basic. the gathers at the knee add interest and bulk to this otherwise basic pair. i'd normally pair them with a much longer shirt, but on this day...by this time, it was so hot that i could only think of wearing a cool white tee. i shredded the back of this one, so it hung just long enough to cover the rear.

how's your week so far? have you been watching the olympics?

homemade cookies are the best...
