the fourth of july is coming and that means three things...bbq, beach, and beverages red, white, and blue! i found this chambray shirt dress in my friendship swap bag and thought it would be the perfect backdrop for pops of red and white. a subtle way to show my patriotism.

this weekend, we hiked up diamond head at high noon. it was so hot. we definitely didn't plan it that way, it just happened. it was also crowded and there was no parking on site, so we had to park far and walk. i really didn't mind the extra distance...if only it weren't so hot. super proud of mini-he; this hike was probably a bit much for him, but he made it to the top.

one of my most worn combinations is a [graphic] tee + jeans + heels...with a jacket or blazer, if need, accessorized with a statement necklace, great bag, scarf, pair of sunglasses, or all of the above. it's a casual combination that looks polished if all the pieces are just right...meaning a slightly oversized tee and a great-fitting pair of jeans.

these JustFab signature skinny distressed denims in indian ocean are the perfect match for a tee and heels. it's not overly distressed, making it wearable to the office, and is perfectly fitted. i have a couple pairs of JustFab jeans, but they didn't make them in my size at the time (i had to size up). many of their newer styles are now available in size 24, and i couldn't be happier with the fit. this is definitely one to stock up on, and right now, you can get 2 pairs for $49.95.

when i think of new year's eve, i think shiny and sparkly. and bubbly, haha. east vs west holiday edition is back with our picks on what to wear to your new year's eve celebration. this is the night you can go all out, glitz and glamour, in rich velvet, sequins, and embellishments. when you have a statement dress, you don't need much else to complete the look. throw on some killer heels and keep the accessories to a minimum. all of our dresses are from The Stylist LA, a designer dress borrowing service.

i used to be obsessed with victoria's secret's pink line. can't tell you how many pairs of sweatpants and hoodies i own. i loved getting the catalogs in the mail, browsing them, wanting everything i saw. then they opened a store here, and it kind of lost its appeal. you know, wanting what you can't have. or maybe my lifestyle changed...i acquired responsibilities and realized i couldn't live in track suits, haha.
in any case, i still love the stuff and pop into the store every once in a while. but instead of buying lounge wear, i opt for sporty pieces that can double up as casual weekend wear or workout clothes...like this super thin and comfy tee.

on another note, i finally watched my very first episode of gossip girl. i'm not sure why it never appealed to me before, but it's been popping up on my netflix queue recently. i got thru a few episodes last night and think it's something i could definitely get into.

is there anyone else out there who has not seen the show?!

the t-shirt dress.

i'm bringing it all back to basics with this t-shirt dress from Front Row Shop. this is one of those items that you have to try on to know how amazing it is. it has these [funny looking, but genius] built-in ties that don't spin around like a belt would. when you are short on time in the morning, this is an easy-to-wear dress that stands on its own. just sprinkle a few oomph-worthy accessories, and you are good to go.

this past weekend, i saw the musical, Broadway's Next H!t Musical. it's a fully improvised musical comedy that is based on suggestions from the audience. before you take your seat, you are asked to write down a made-up song title. act one takes place at the Tony Phony Awards Show where the four improv stars each perform a song based on a title that they draw randomly. the audience votes on their favorite, and the second act is the musical based on the winning song. a couple of the titles picked were...meh...the actors had to really dig deep to create a story. others were funny. point is, if you see the show, give them some creative titles! it'll only make the show better for you.

this is a great musical to see over and over again,

because it'll never be the same.

crazy for camouflage, that is.

the team at Patty's Closet in Windward Mall probably thought i was crazy for choosing a bunch of camouflage items, but they were too fun to pass up. leggings are tricky (i wrote about them here), but this one passed my test with its studded detail at the knees and busy pattern which camouflages, haha, unsightly bumps and bulges. plus, it seemed appropriate for all the chilly, big-sweater-and-leggings kind of nights soon to come. stay tuned for another fun camouflage piece coming up later this week.

i love the intensity of jewel tones.

jewel tone colors are rich and exciting to the eye, especially when paired with other deep colors. however, to keep the focus on these great pants, i paired it with mint, a lighter, non-competing color in the same [green] family, then added deep red shoes for extra oomph.

spent some QT with mini-she this past weekend, lunching and shopping as girls do. been wanting to try this place that opened up near my office, so our first stop was fresh cafe. the food was delicious, but i was most impressed with the coffee. we spent the rest of the afternoon trying on swim suits for mini-she, and i happened to find this dress on the clearance rack at a local boutique. it was a good day.
