black white and red.

this is one of those dresses that looks better on than on the hanger. i have a lot of striped mini dresses, so this longer length was a nice change. i love the uneven hem, the side slits, and the fact that this feels like a cozy oversized tee. rocking a bold red lip, because why not?

we have been having a slew of rainy days here with all the storms passing thru. this weekend i was at lanikai beach; it was beautiful one minute, pouring the next (if you missed it on periscope, you can still see it on katch)!

how's the weather in your area?

Kauai Shores Hotel, Kapa'a
our next stop was the hotel to check in. the grounds were decent with two pools and access to the beach below. an xbox console was provided in the room, DVD rental booths, and (good) wifi on the grounds. free parking (although very crowded at night when everyone is home), free outdoor yoga, and coffee and tea service in the mornings (actually, there were donuts, fruit, toast/cheeses as well!). an excellent place to stay for under $100/night.
Waimea Pier, "the landing"
i practically grew up on this landing. my mom flew us to kauai every weekend to visit my grandparents, and we would fish and cast crab nets...and take our catch home for dinner. this is a black sand beach.
Hanapepe Swinging Bridge
they have fixed this bridge since the last time i was here. it used to be a rope bridge, but wooden planks have now replaced that. it doesn't swing as it used to, but it certainly does shake...did you catch it on periscope?!!

dress of a different kind.

business in the front, party on the sides?
like i always say, i enjoy pieces that are simple yet have oomph-worthy details. while this may look like a plain black maxi dress from the front and back, the blue side panels stop at the knee allowing just a bit of leg to peek out.

we did a little bit of exploring this weekend which consisted of a lot of eating and a lot more driving. photos below.

how was your weekend?

friendship swap.

a while back i won a pair of friendship swap bags that i never had the chance to use. well, a friend recently brought up the subject of organizing a clothing swap party, i remembered the swap bags, and long story short, our swap partnership was born.  we had a successful first swap. i was excited to find this pretty dress in my bag; it fit perfectly and is the perfect length to wear with flats. my friend loved one of the tops in her bag, so we actually swapped them for good. have a great week!

do you participate in clothing swaps?

where it all began.

i was in elementary school when my dad took the family to germany on what was probably our last vacay together. i remember the shopping...one store in particular that was really narrow, but like six or seven stories tall. on the first floor there were baskets and baskets of these canvas-type shoes with straw-like soles in every color of the rainbow...and i hadn't seen anything like it before, but i knew i liked them. i wanted one in every color, but mom said no...so i chose one with a yellow and blue pattern on it. they were so comfy, i think i wore them every. day.
and that was how my love for espadrilles began.

a few pictures below from last weeks golf tournament.

setting up our drink station, waiting for the tournament to start. we didn't really have a nice view...if only we were facing the other way, we could've been looking at the hole below.
the hole right behind us.
what we were serving up...vodka + cranberry; margaritas, and bloody marys.
no room in the cart, so mini-she had to jump on the back. she kept getting whacked in the head by the trees!

wedding blues.

what an awesome memorial day (and birthday) weekend it was! it was definitely a busy one jam packed with people to see, places to go, and yummy food and drink...but those are the best kind, right?

it started with a friend's wedding on friday to which i wore this pretty blue dress from Patty's Closet. the hotel has fireworks every friday night which was timed perfectly for the wedding reception. more weekend pictures to follow.

how did you spend your weekend?

the minis surprised me with my favorite ice cream cake.
snuck in a couple glasses of wine at the wedding. see that pretty floral centerpiece? it was supposed to be mine - i won it - but this annoying girl on our table asked me if she could have it! ugh...so i gave it to her.
awesome fireworks show.
did you catch it on my snapchat?

printed shift dress.

this dress from Patty's Closet was on point for mother's day brunching. its simple shape was comfortable, not to mention forgiving, for all the eating we were doing. and this long gold necklace from my latest Rocksbox was perfect for breaking up the pattern. a few pics from mother's day below.

how did you celebrate the moms/mother-figures in your life?

the cream pot, waikiki

i've been wanting to try the cream pot for a while and was able to get a last minute 12:30 reservation. i heard a lot of great things about this place and had high expectations. however, we didn't get seated until 1:30pm...and our food didn't arrive until 2:20pm (they close at 2:30pm)!

but...the food was really good and the presentation excellent. there were a lot of cute details throughout like their little white dishes and the garden-like interiors. the souffle pancakes is their signature dish, so we had to try that. mini-she and i split that and the eggs benedict. our table also had crepes and french toast, all which were very sweet, a lot of bread, and had us craving meat!

my recommendation is for everyone to order something savory, then get a couple of sweet dishes to share.
