not gonna lie. kind of having a love affair with white. 

i've always loved whites...the crisp white shirt, the structured white shorts, the summery white dress, the basic white v-neck (even white nail polish!)...all which usually end up in my wardrobe anyways. but now i find myself actually seeking out all things white. 

hence, the white jumpsuit.

a long-sleeved jumpsuit is a whole lotta white, not to mention a huge canvas for food or red wine stains! but i survived a night out with friends listening to a friend play music at o bar in the alohilani resort. food and red wine were involved, but i my jumpsuit made in home unscathed.

wow...it's been a while!

last we spoke, our office [of 15 years] was transitioning to a new location. it was a long process, but we are finally moved in and slowly getting settled. unfortunately, i spent most of my time in jeans + tees while packing and cleaning...nothing quite blog-worthy. now that there is some kind of normalcy, it feels great to get dressed again...although we are in a much different environment. while the old office was close to the beach, the new office is literally on the beach warranting much more casual attire.

i love the crispness of white. these shorts from express were the right length and fit that i wanted...paired with my favorite button-down + summer slippers = my perfect summer look.

finishing off this week of summer whites with white nails. it took me a while to warm up to white nails (i actually prefer black!), but it's a fun color that really pops against your tanned summer skin. my biggest beef with this opaque polish is that it can be difficult to apply; but with a fresh bottle of polish and a little patience, you'll have summery white nails in no time.

wearing spoiled by wet n wild in 'correction tape' accented with 'flirty flair' by jamberry nails. i've been wanting to try nail stickers for a while, so thanks to my girl, tiffany, for hooking me up with a few to try. definitely check her out if you are looking for something different for your nails. they have so many designs to choose from!

thanks to those who checked in on us. the first hurricane was downgraded to a tropical storm by the time it reached us. no major damage (on oahu), and we are ok! the second one is on its way, but is expected to head north missing the islands.

many businesses announced their friday closures in anticipation of the hurricanes. my 9-miler (race) was cancelled, mini-he's school closed, and even mini-she's first day of school was postponed until next wednesday. but aside from heavy winds and rains on thursday night, we woke up to nothing more than gray skies on friday. in fact, we spent the day playing tourist in waikiki, shopping, eating, drinking, and even walking the beach at night.

tropical storms, hurricanes, earthquakes, and flash flood warnings...we got it all. with the hurricanes expected to hit this weekend, people are going crazy stocking up on water, canned goods, gasoline, etc., and as a result of that some greedy retailers have jacked up the prices on these necessities. $17-$30 for a case of water...are you f@cking kidding me? way to help us out in time of need!

as of right now, my 9-miler (race) is still on for sunday. we won't know until saturday night if it will be cancelled due to the weather. i can't believe i'm saying this, but i'm hoping it's NOT cancelled. this particular race covers the mid-section of the marathon course - the hilly part - so i'd love to see what i'm in for for the marathon.

with summer officially over, we had a big blowout at the beach house this weekend. some friends are in town, too, so it was one big slumber party. mini-she cooked for us all weekend...chocolate chip banana pancakes + bacon + eggs for breakfast, steak + sauteed onions for dinner, snicker doodles + homemade ice cream for dessert...the eating [and drinking] never stopped. plus, the weather was perfect for the multiple trips we made to the beach. we also escaped the heat for a quick trip to the movies (if anyone saw disney planes fire & rescue, windlifter was definitely my fave).

with your summer skin a few shades darker, lighter clothing shades amplify your glowing skin. so we're bidding summer farewell with a week of summer whites. when wearing all white (or all black) use texture to add interest to your outfits.

i saw photos of these watermelon cakes floating around during the 4th of july weekend, and most recently on Sisters Marie. since it's been hot and muggy, i decided to give it a try for a refreshing treat. i prepared it after everyone went to bed, and when they saw this pretty cake sitting in the refrigerator the next morning, they were so excited. mini-he couldn't wait to eat this cake. i made him wait almost the whole day, because i was scrambling to also make brownie cups [for brownie sundaes].

why? because i needed a back-up.

when i finally sliced the cake, mini-he was disappointed to see that it was just fruit, haha. he enjoyed the brownie sundaes while the rest of us enjoyed the watermelon cake!

 seedless watermelon is better, but this is what we had. i used extra creamy cool whip (instead of whipped cream), and it held up nicely. just make sure to pat the watermelon dry before applying, then top with whatever you like. super easy.

summer seems to be flying by...

mini-he goes back to school on august 1st, and that'll be the end of our late nights and mid-week rendezvous. i look forward to each weekend and try to fill it with as many fun activities as possible. this weekend we're hoping to hit up a dinosaur exhibit, a [fashionable] night market, and the beach, of course!

speaking of the beach, i found my perfect cover-up from eshakti. the longer sleeves provide a bit of relief from the sun, the embroidered details give it a boho vibe, and i love how the ruffled hem moves prettily in the wind. unfortunately, the white sold out; it's available in orange here. if you want a similar white one, you can probably customize this one to have longer sleeves like the one i'm wearing.
