east vs west style. beauty.

time flies when you're having fun! it's the final week of this [fall 2014] east vs west series, and we're signing off with beauty. your lips and nails are the finishing touches to your outfit. there are four key colors that carry me throughout the fall season...a nude, a pink, a classic red, and a dark shade like plum or black.

LAQA & Co. has me covered with their lip pencils and nail polishes. their fat lip pencils have great pigmentation and never need sharpening (bonus!), while their nail polishes pack a punch of color in just one coat.

i hope that you enjoyed this fall edition of our east vs west series. what was your favorite trend?

as always, a huge thanks to our amazing sponsors.

a little sparkle never hurts either...loving this ring set from INPINK and the sparkly clutch from Lulu's.

lambchop and nookie are the perfect shades of bright pink, ring of fire is a bright red, and plonk is a beautiful deep reddish-brown.

a week of summer whites. textures 01.

with summer officially over, we had a big blowout at the beach house this weekend. some friends are in town, too, so it was one big slumber party. mini-she cooked for us all weekend...chocolate chip banana pancakes + bacon + eggs for breakfast, steak + sauteed onions for dinner, snicker doodles + homemade ice cream for dessert...the eating [and drinking] never stopped. plus, the weather was perfect for the multiple trips we made to the beach. we also escaped the heat for a quick trip to the movies (if anyone saw disney planes fire & rescue, windlifter was definitely my fave).

with your summer skin a few shades darker, lighter clothing shades amplify your glowing skin. so we're bidding summer farewell with a week of summer whites. when wearing all white (or all black) use texture to add interest to your outfits.

are you (or your kids) back in school?
what will you miss most about summer?

love these bic flame disks! a super easy alternative to charcoal that was perfect for making s'mores.
peace out, summer!

long layers.

while many of you are experiencing cool fall weather (i know a few who had their first snow!), it's still hot here. best way to stay cool is in loose layers, like this vest from Patty's Closet. if you haven't already, join their text club to receive exclusive discounts. text 'pattys' to 75309.

i seem to be experiencing a streak of bad luck with my computers. a few months ago my hard drive crashed at work. i lost everything. my hard drive was replaced as a quick fix, but i'm still waiting on my new computer. last night, my laptop at home died. apologies, again, for the interruption in posts.

how's the weather in your neck of the woods?

how cute is this? i'm totally stealing this idea...but it needs a heavier base because i kept knocking it over.

say it with a [graphic] tee.

i've always had a love-hate relationship with t-shirts,
because the fit, material, and length have to be just right. and while i never used to wear much of them, they have been at the top of my wishlist recently for several reasons:
1) they are great layering pieces
2) they are versatile; can be dressed up or down
3) they are comfortable
in particular, neutral colors (especially grays) with simple sayings or graphics have been on my radar. i recently ordered this one from madewell only to find that it is back ordered until january! so i was ecstatic to [coincidentally] receive this one from my friends over at sisters marie. we didn't get a full length picture, but i am wearing my sole society skylar boots. the collage shows a couple ways i will be wearing my tees.

do you wear tees? do you keep them casual or dress them up?

aztec shorts + stud earrings.

just as there are wardrobe staples, there are accessory staples.
two kinds of earrings that are a must-have in my jewelry collection are simple hoops and studs. my daily grind of work and kids' activities doesn't warrant the use of big, elaborate earrings (i save those for nights out), but i will always reach for basic hoop earrings or stud earrings in gold or silver. they are the finishing touches on a casual outfit and the perfect fillers for your bare ears when you are wearing a statement necklace. while i'm wearing them here with shorts and slippers, i love that these pretty, square-cut studs from INPINK have enough shine and detail for a formal evening out.

i picked up these shorts from Patty's Closet a few weeks ago when they were having their 20% off labor day sale. i usually prefer cuts and fabrics that are a little more sturdy and structured (like denim!), so this was something different for me. mini-she says they look like pajamas, and i'm ok with that!

the longer shorts.

every morning, there's a few minutes after i get into my car where my mind drifts off, and i think about stuff. maybe reflecting on something i did, or what i have to do later, things that make me smile, or things i'm worried about. it's like i'm in a bubble and everything around me is on mute.
and then i realize, "hey, i can't hear the music!"
and the moment is over.

i'm kind of obsessed with cutting my jeans at the knees. with our year round warm weather, i wear a lot of shorts. i also love to wear heels, but i can't get away with wearing [short] shorts and heels during the day. a longer length, however, feels appropriate and more within my comfort zone. i first tried it out with this pair, and now these black joe's jeans that had an awkward fit as jeans anyways. i'm still experimenting
with the lengths.

when is your moment of reflection?

the prettiest rainbow jello...
i usually make 5-layer or 7-layer jello.
i think my co-worker was showing off with her 9-layer jello!

dark denim.

with fall comes darker colors, and denim is no exception.
i had a void in my closet for a pair of super dark, ankle-length, skinny jeans. while my search, locally, produced no results, i remembered that madewell had a signature dark wash. coincidentally, refinery29 had a madewell promotion where $60 got you $100 to spend...it was the perfect opportunity to try the jeans. the whole thing turned out to be a big disappointment (my fault) because i sized up just in case and ordered the rail straight style instead of the skinny. the jeans actually fit ok when i tried them on (which is why i didn't return them), but by mid-day they were so stretched out that i felt sloppy.

enter pacsun. i've raved about their bullhead denim before, so i don't know why i didn't think to look there first. as someone who's had a motherload of jeans in my lifetime, pacsun bullhead jeans rank among the top. and the bonus? they were $39 and buy one get one free last weekend. guess that makes up for my $98 loss at madewell.

to date, i have five pairs of bullhead black denim jeans,
and i love them all. these are the denim jeggings, and i'm wearing their "skinny" here.
how cute is this starfish bracelet? also in white and navy. (buy)

the half tee.

idon'tlikeshirtsthatareprintedinthefrontandsolidintheback.
there. i said it.
i always feel a little disappointed when i see a beautiful, printed blouse...maybe it's stripes or florals or bird print...and maybe it has a fun buttons or cool pockets, then you turn it around, and...nothing...solid.
but in reverse? i'm kinda loving it. like this one from Patty's Closet [in windward mall]. it has the element of surprise. it may be a basic tee from the front, but turn around and find a fun, unexpected print in the back. plus, you always have the option to add oomph to the front with a great statement necklace.

fun dressing rooms, cute displays, and lotsa prints.
