a week of yellow. details.

today's yellow is in the details with this bright top from Patty's Closet. the lace detail needs nothing else...except maybe a bold lip!

have you updated your closet for spring yet? Patty's Closet is stocked with spring brights and fun accessories. i'm giving away a $25 gift card from Patty's Closet on instagram. details here.

a week of spring dressing. bright florals.

it's a week of spring dressing...brights, print mixing, and, of course, florals. it just wouldn't be right to let spring pass without rocking a bright spring dress. and even though i feel a little out of my element in it, i'm hoping these little black details help tone it down a bit.

we recently got our first anthropologie store, and while i was only passing thru this time, i want to go back and get evvvrything in their home sections. do you have an anthropologie near you?

what trends do you associate with spring fashion?

a week of coats. military.

having coats in Hawaii is a matter of want vs need. for the most part, we don't need them...but it doesn't stop us from wanting them. besides, there may come a freakishly cold day in which we might need one, right? at least that's how i justify them. i'm pulling a few out of the closet for this week of coats.

i used to love military coats (think gold buttons, structured, uniformed piping). the details on this one plus its navy color had a subtle military vibe.

leopard tights + boots.

i'm late to the party.
we're already eight days into 2015 and i haven't quite figured out what my goal for the year is. last year's was simple. the marathon. this year, i want a similar goal that i can focus on entirely. sure, i have other things i want to do, too, like read more, get organized, and try new things, but i haven't pinpointed that main goal...yet. have you?

what do you want to accomplish this year?

east vs west style. oversized knits.

this week's trend is definitely my favorite. i wear oversized sweaters year round, and i look forward to fall as an excuse to add a few new ones to the wardrobe. surprisingly, i've never owned a plain black sweater, so this one made sense. i'll definitely get a lot of wear out of this versatile sweater.

hope you've been enjoying the series so far. what's been your favorite week?

east
Jackie / Living After Midnite / New York
Meaghan / District Sparkle / Virginia
Tracy / TheRightShoes / New York

west
Ashley / Pursuit of Shoes / California
Danielle / Envision Pretty / California
Becks / oomph. / Hawaii

what do you wear with a simple black sweater? fun two-tone denim, cute quilted heels, a bucket bag for a boho vibe, and a fall hat to top it all off.

bohemian chic.

bohemian can mean different things depending on the individual. in general, the look gives off a romantic and free-spirited feeling. it's easy to say you want to look like nicole richie but difficult to execute, so make sure to tailor the look to suit your personal style.

here's the breakdown of my bohemian outfit:
(and ideas for creating yours)

1. a soft, flowy dress
(think gauzy dresses, soft flared denim, comfortable maxi skirts, denim cutoffs)

2. tie dye pattern and ruffled hem
(details - unconventional patterns, embellishments and embroidery, crochet insets, fringe)

3. cute sandals
(think open-toed sandals or slippers for dresses, chunky platforms for flared denim)

4. a crossbody bag
(satchels, sling bags, natural fabrics or colorful patchwork)

5. loose waves
(keep hair unfussy with natural loose waves or a messy bun, or throw in a braid or try a headscarf)

(necklaces top to bottom: kendra scott; capwell & co.; 9th & elm)

6. pile on the jewelry
(instead of one statement necklace, try layering several pieces in varying lengths; add a second or third ring)

i didn't do this last one because it's still hot here, but...
7. layer up
play around with proportions and lengths. a long scarf is just right over a tee and flared denim, cardigans and jackets layered over dresses, and kimonos over cutoffs.

i have a hard time finding bracelets that fit, so i have been loving jewelry inspired tattoos like these from flash tattoos. they are super easy to apply and last at least a week for me. after i cut the length to fit my wrist, i love using the extra on my fingers as rings. however, the rings don't last as long since i wash my hands a lot. good enough for a night out, though!

casual leopard.

countdown to the weekend, and i can't wait.
last weekend, a big storm rolled in, and we didn't get to do everything we had planned. i'm hoping to make up for it this weekend. every summer, i like to incorporate a mauka to makai (mountain to sea) theme, where we try to spend equal time mauka (hiking or other nature activities) and makai (beach or pool/waterpark). this summer has been makai all the way. i'm a little bummed that i haven't hiked once, so i hope to get one in before summer ends.

what's something you were hoping to do this summer?
do you have a summer theme?

leather and lace.

i hated that this leather tank was just sitting in my closet during these warm months, so i summer-fied it by pairing it with some lace shorts and open-toed sandals.

braided hairstyles usually have romantic or boho connotations. but lisa, from stilettos and diaper bags, recently rocked a kick-a$$ braided hairstyle that was totally rocker chic...and this leather tank called for just that. while she braided one side all the way down for a faux undercut look, i braided both sides just past my ears, then pinned them under the rest of my hair for a mullet slick-back look.

what kind of braided hairstyle are you rocking this summer?
or what braided style would you like to try?

the beach tote.

it's the freakin weekend!
i have beach, sand, and sun on my mind, so it only seems right ending the week with a casual beach outfit. my friends over at sisters marie sent me this cute beach bag. it reminds me of one i had years ago that i absolutely loved. it's both functional (holds all the beach essentials and more) and fashionable (love the colorful stripes).

the bag wanted all the attention, so i kept the outfit neutral but added oomph with visual texture (heathered tee) and physical texture (lace shorts). throw in some beachy waves, grab your sunglasses, and head to the water. see you there!

and with summer here, there are tons of makeup and beauty products to try...sunscreens, bronzers, protective hair sprays, tanning lotions, and summery nail polishes to name a few. enter the Ulta giveaway for a chance to win a $250 gift card.

what product would you like to try this summer?
