hair today gone tomorrow.

last year i started to take hawaiian astaxanthin while training for the marathon. it is a powerful antioxidant that supports joint and tendon health, among other things, recommended for helping muscles recover quickly after long runs. what i didn't expect was hair growth.

since my hair was always up while running, i never realized just how long it was getting. but, seriously, look at all this hair. this growth together with my ability to majorly procrastinate on scheduling [hair] appointments meant constant headaches from my increasingly heavy locks.

i have been know to chop off my own hair out of frustration, and oops, i did it again. here today, gone tomorrow.

leather and lace.

i hated that this leather tank was just sitting in my closet during these warm months, so i summer-fied it by pairing it with some lace shorts and open-toed sandals.

braided hairstyles usually have romantic or boho connotations. but lisa, from stilettos and diaper bags, recently rocked a kick-a$$ braided hairstyle that was totally rocker chic...and this leather tank called for just that. while she braided one side all the way down for a faux undercut look, i braided both sides just past my ears, then pinned them under the rest of my hair for a mullet slick-back look.

what kind of braided hairstyle are you rocking this summer?
or what braided style would you like to try?

two down + banquet style.

february is gone, and in looking back at my resolutions,
here's a quick recap of the month:

drink water - check!
try something new - participated in the 8.15 mile great aloha run, got my first peplum, made jello shots,
and finally tried the shamrock shake.
be on time - we were late a few times.
eat breakfast with the minis - yikes...see above!
simplify & declutter - check! cleaned out minis' drawers and closets, getting ready to list some items on the recently launched site, because they grow too fast.
improve my photography skills - check! finally understand what
f-stop is have been trying that out in my photos.
timely & organized posts - check! caught up on a few reviews for the ryane boot from JustFab and a custom jeans website DoMy Jeans, and told you how you could win $l,000

leaving you with a few pictures from mini-she's
school banquet this weekend.

(ali ro dress (similar)(similar on sale!))
for mini-she's hair, we decided to do a simple wrap around braid.
venue: the recently built filipino community center
mini-she's dress + blazer.
decor was nice and simple with blue, glowing centerpieces;
the spanish-style courtyard was pretty at night with the lights and floating lanterns.

haircut and dorks.

last weekend was mini-he's first flag football game. he's still pretty clueless about football, but he's having a good time. poor guys got rained on pretty bad this day...all of us did.

after the game, i rushed over to my hair appointment. decided to grow my hair out again, so i had her really thin out my ends to make this in-between stage more manageable.

after that, we hung out at my sister's house and acted like a bunch of dorks. give us a pair of nerd glasses, and these were bound to happen. i rarely post pics of the minis here, but these were just too funny.

mini-she is already taller than me by an inch or so. take away my heels and put them on her, and this is what you get...
my not-so-mini mini!

the haircut.

yep.
i did it.
and love it.

the first cut is the hardest.
i chickened out and didn't go as short as i planned.
but now that it's already short,
i want to go shorter.
like tattoos, it's an addiction.

before.
a whole lotta hair on the ground.
after.

a round tuit.

one of my weaknesses, if you would call it that, is my inability to schedule timely appointments. routine checkups at the doctor, physicals for the kids, car maintenance, and hair appointments...i'm likely calling for appointments in desperation rather than scheduling them ahead of time. it's mainly the convenience or inconvenience of the matter. leave the scheduling to me, and i'll never get around to it.
but give me a date and a time, and i'll be there.

looking back at my archives, i last cut my hair in february. six. months. ago. i can just see my hairstylist shaking her head. i've been curling my hair so much that i didn't realize [when i straightened it below] how long it's been getting.

but i somehow manage to get thru all these months. here's how:

curls camouflage straggly, dry ends.

i love piling my hair up into a messy bun or low chignon.
it's quick and easy and no one will notice those dry ends
when they are tucked under.

bobby pins are my best friend in between haircuts. it's a great way to keep those overgrown bangs out of your eyes.

braids.
braids keep unruly hair at bay.

hats.
hats are a great cover-up for bad hair days. plop one on and go.

and when all of the above fail, it's really time for a haircut.
i'll make an appointment soon. promise, i'll get a round tuit.

are you good about scheduling appointments?

beat the heat.

the summer heat really makes it difficult to get dressed in the mornings. not wanting to put on anything thick or long-sleeved or fitted, i tend to reach for breezy tank tops and loose-fitting jeans. simple and unfussy but with a few fun accessories like my trusty leopard heels and this cute clutch
i got for my birthday.

my dad cringes everytime he sees these jeans. he can't believe i wear them out of the house. granted they've gotten much worse over the years...the strings that used to cover my knees have been severed, now leaving big gaping holes. add to this my sloppily rolled cuffs. what is he talking about?
they're finally perfect.

only a few more days to enter my june giveaways for a free pair of glasses from firmoo and an anastasia of beverly hills lash genius. i know the firmoo giveaway has a bit more requirements than normal, but all it takes is a facebook account (if you have one) and a quick blog post about the giveaway...you can even take all the info from my post here.

do you have anything that is finally worn to perfection?

6.25.2012

an [oomph] review. bobby glam hair extensions.

every girl dreams of having long luscious locks. as a kid,
i used to put my long pants on my head and pretend it was long hair. (seriously, i have pictures!) so, i was thrilled to have the opportunity to try bobby glam's triple weft full head hair extensions. bobby glam has a variety of extensions from clip-in bangs and face framing fringe to layering and blending wefts to ponytails and full head extensions...
all made of 100% human hair.

the triple weft full head extensions comes with seven pieces - three wefts of hair per piece, giving you more hair with less clips. in other words, triple the density with the same number of pieces. the fitting guide was easy to follow and clipping them in was simple and fast. these photos were from the very first time i tried them. i was going to re-do them perfectly before showing you, but i thought you could see and learn
from my trial and error.

the instructions say to start at the nape and work your way up. after inserting all of the clips, i realized i started too low which left a big jump between the extension and my real hair. i could have started higher or even left out the first clip.
tip #1: check the length and placement after each clip.

without extensions (left) & with extensions (right).

my hair was already styled and curled before using the extensions making it hard to curl and blend the extensions with my own hair. the extensions didn't hold the curls as well, but i think i was being cautious not to overstyle or burn them, too.
tip #2: insert extensions then style as you normally would.

a full head of extensions was heavy at first, but after a short while, i didn't notice the weight at all. the clips were also very comfortable and i didn't experience any tugging or pinching.

overall, i loved the full locks. it was exciting to have this kind of length and volume. even though a full set isn't something i would use everyday, i can see myself using a few clips just to add some length or volume. however, i am definitely going to rock the full set on my next girls' night out for a super dramatic look. if you ever wanted to try extensions or are looking to add oomph to your look for a special event, i would recommend bobby glam hair extensions.

if i didn't tell you...
would you have known that i was wearing extensions?

in case you missed it, check out my review of
bobby glam jewellery here.

*i received one set of hair extensions in exchange for my honest review.
