when it comes to basics, it's all about the details. the twist front (which is hard to see in the photos) adds oomph to this basic black top. i'm wearing it here with a printed black and white skort; both are from Patty's Closet. and for a little color and excitement, i'm using one of my favorite leopard clutches from love & sunshine.

quick trip to waimea bay...caught a jumper in action mid-air.
i've run across a few people who said they didn't need a watch because they had their phone. while it's true that you can find the time on your phone, i'd have to dig thru my bag to find the phone and press the home button to light up the screen. two steps vs. a quick glance at my wrist.
what if you were surfing in the morning before work...how would you know when to come in? would you have your phone on you? likely not, but a water resistant watch would come in handy.
what about fashion, style, and status? watches are a statement of one's style, and a fashion accessory that both men and women can enjoy.
so to answer the question...timepieces are not a thing of the past. there will always be a need (and want) for quality watches.
do you wear a watch on the daily?
i love watches and have always worn watches. i am not a collector of watches because i usually invest in one [at a time] that i love and want to wear on the daily. the latest has been this beautiful wood watch from JORD. i chose maple because it's neutral for my skin tone and versatile enough to be worn with many colors and styles (just check my instagram!).
the details are simply amazing, the watch is very lightweight, and each comes in a beautiful box.
striped dresses used to be my thing. i couldn't get enough of them. maybe because they were simple and didn't require much else...a pair of sneaks and a crossbody bag + simple jewelry and you're set for a day of running around. have a great weekend!
what are you running around in?
did you have a thing?
#FBF to this yummy gelato from via gelato. 1/2 strawberry cheesecake, 1/2 snickerdoodle. the snickerdoodle was so yummy!
last year i started to take hawaiian astaxanthin while training for the marathon. it is a powerful antioxidant that supports joint and tendon health, among other things, recommended for helping muscles recover quickly after long runs. what i didn't expect was hair growth.
since my hair was always up while running, i never realized just how long it was getting. but, seriously, look at all this hair. this growth together with my ability to majorly procrastinate on scheduling [hair] appointments meant constant headaches from my increasingly heavy locks.
i have been know to chop off my own hair out of frustration, and oops, i did it again. here today, gone tomorrow.
the first and only times i set foot in urban outfitters was about seven years ago when i was on vacay in california. we probably went to three different stores, and i was in heaven each time. the stores were filled to the brim with all kinds of goodness; i was literally that kid in a candy store. i wanted everything.
its arrival here was bittersweet since they are in waikiki. as with other stores that came to waikiki (h&m, forever 21), the likelihood of me going down there just to shop is slim to none. but last week, i attended a class held at a hotel in waikiki, so i made sure to check out our very first urban outfitters.
do you like urban outfitters?
is there a store near you?
i was a little bummed about the clothes - nothing exciting, a lot of the same thing spread out around the store. i was also super bummed about their home section (or lack of, i should say). that was one of the areas i loved when i visited in california.
but i loved their beauty and make up section which was fully stocked with anastasia of beverly hills products, among other cool brands. sephora has limited products, but UO had most of her line. they also had tony moly products which i've only seen online before.
thumbs up for their swimsuit selection, bags, and shoes. lots of cute styles.
overall, i like the store. everyone was friendly and helpful. hopefully there will be a new crop of clothes the next time i'm in the area.

for all you wine lovahs, today is national drink wine day. for those who didn't know (it's ok, i didn't know either...shame on me!), it is always celebrated on February 18th. i couldn't find any true historical meaning behind this day other than to simply rejoice and enjoy your favorite wines. so...go ahead, grab your glass. [virtual] cheers!
in spirit of the day, scroll down for some wine facts, fun gadgets, favorite sayings, and must-haves.
one of my first and favorite coats, this one is both basic (black) and dressy (velour). i love wearing it during the holidays when it's chilly, because the velour gives it a festive vibe. but when the holidays have passed and the weather is a little warmer, dressing it down by throwing it over a sweatshirt and denim cutoffs seems like a viable way to get more use of it year-round.
if you're a coffee drinker, then you'll understand this tee. seriously, let's not talk [or at least have any deep discussions] until i've had my coffee...mkay?
it's hard for me to say it's cold when i see everyone posting about below zero temps, but when the weather here drops below 60 degrees, it's fuh-ree-zing. these pictures were taken yesterday when it was slightly warmer, but still chilly enough to warrant the use of these super cute gloves. stay tuned for a warm and cozy giveaway tomorrow.
