but first coffee.

if you're a coffee drinker, then you'll understand this tee. seriously, let's not talk [or at least have any deep discussions] until i've had my coffee...mkay?

it's hard for me to say it's cold when i see everyone posting about below zero temps, but when the weather here drops below 60 degrees, it's fuh-ree-zing. these pictures were taken yesterday when it was slightly warmer, but still chilly enough to warrant the use of these super cute gloves. stay tuned for a warm and cozy giveaway tomorrow.

where do you live, and what's the temp?

olive + red.

this is as fall as it's going to get around here, i'm afraid. with temps still reaching the 90s + high humidity, it's [literally] difficult to get dressed in the morning. i tried to put on a pair of jeans this weekend and could not get them up past my knees, because i was so sticky! the struggle is real!

but when it does get chilly, one of my utility jackets is always within reach. pairing an olive green jacket with red [plaid] is one of my absolute favorite combos.

p.s. stay tuned for our fall 2014 east vs. west series
debuting tomorrow!

have you transitioned to fall completely?
what fall trend are you loving?

buffalo plaid.

one of my must-haves for fall is a great flannel...and what better than one in classic red. it's great for chilly fall mornings and nights, perfect for the pumpkin patch, and festive come christmas.

while i love all patterns from gingham to checks and tartans, i've been wanting to add a buffalo plaid to my collection. like everything else, though, the perfect one is hard to find.

i came close with this one last year but hope to score 'the one' this year.

what's one thing you hope to pick up this fall?

ain't laurent.

the big news around here is the giant surf hitting hawaii's north shores this week. the expected waves of 40-50ft high, biggest this decade, were deemed too dangerous and deadly even for professional big-wave surfers. oh how i wish i was at the beach house this week...these huge waves are such an awesome sight to see.

another jeans + tee combo wearing this parodical tee from Patty's Closet. in case you were wondering, the saying was meant to be somewhat of a spoof on the renaming of the legendary fashion house, yves saint laurent. the brand's most recent designer chose to drop 'yves' and work under saint laurent. the iconic interlocking YSL symbol is what many of us associate the brand with, and some people were not happy with the loss of Y. the result? this tee. what are your thoughts on this?

stay tuned tomorrow for another awesome giveaway.

i love flannels, period. but throw on some studs or [faux] leather trims, and i won't be able to resist.

white denim.

what i've been wearing lately?
white denim.

here's a few things i look for when choosing a pair:
- one that has some stretch to it
regular denim can be bulky
- choose a slim and straight-legged fit instead of a skinny fit
creating a straight line from hip to ankles will lengthen. think triangle vs. rectangle. skinny denim will show off your curves giving you a triangluar shape which is wide across the middle and skinny at the ankles. a slim pair that is fitted but not tight at the ankles gives a slimming, uniform width.
go for the rectangle.
- fitted but not skin tight
we all know white can widen, but don't over-compensate by going tighter. for obvious reasons, white shows everything...
don't add muffin top to that. loosen up a bit.
- choose the right length
whether you're looking for skinnys or long flared denim, avoid bunching at the bottom. you can cuff them to your ankles (like i did here) or make sure the flare is wide enough to fall over your shoes.

wearing white can be tricky, but as with anything else, it's all about finding the right proportions for your body. are you intimidated by wearing white? what do you look for when purchasing white bottoms?

mini-she's school play was this weekend.
they did such an amazing job!
