east vs west style. beauty.

time flies when you're having fun! it's the final week of this [fall 2014] east vs west series, and we're signing off with beauty. your lips and nails are the finishing touches to your outfit. there are four key colors that carry me throughout the fall season...a nude, a pink, a classic red, and a dark shade like plum or black.

LAQA & Co. has me covered with their lip pencils and nail polishes. their fat lip pencils have great pigmentation and never need sharpening (bonus!), while their nail polishes pack a punch of color in just one coat.

i hope that you enjoyed this fall edition of our east vs west series. what was your favorite trend?

as always, a huge thanks to our amazing sponsors.

a little sparkle never hurts either...loving this ring set from INPINK and the sparkly clutch from Lulu's.

lambchop and nookie are the perfect shades of bright pink, ring of fire is a bright red, and plonk is a beautiful deep reddish-brown.

east vs west style. oversized knits.

this week's trend is definitely my favorite. i wear oversized sweaters year round, and i look forward to fall as an excuse to add a few new ones to the wardrobe. surprisingly, i've never owned a plain black sweater, so this one made sense. i'll definitely get a lot of wear out of this versatile sweater.

hope you've been enjoying the series so far. what's been your favorite week?

what do you wear with a simple black sweater? fun two-tone denim, cute quilted heels, a bucket bag for a boho vibe, and a fall hat to top it all off.

east vs west style. leather.

today's trend is nothing new. what would fall be without...leather?! while i'd love to stock my closet with awesome leather jackets like these ladies, i decided to put a spin on the classic white tee + jeans combo with this uber cool white [vegan] leather tee + dark wash jeans from Lulu's. more appropriate for hawaii's warm weather, wouldn't you agree?

how are you rocking leather this fall?

with a simple outfit like this, i was able to add color and texture with accessories like these pretty blue caged heels + panama hat from Sole Society and this [faux] leather clutch from love & sunshine.

east vs west style. jewel tones.

we're back! the girls and i are here with another east vs west series. there are so many great fall trends this year...some of them oldies but goodies while others are new and adventurous. this fall 2014 edition is five weeks of our favorite trends, and we're kicking it off with jewel tones.

if you're new to east vs west, it's a collaboration between six girls (three from the east coast, three from the west coast) where we showcase our favorite trends and see how location and lifestyle influence style across the states.

while i normally associate jewel tones with purples and greens, i have a new found love for deep rich navy blue. it all started with this beautiful wool skirt from Hutch. i love the wide stripes and [vegan] leather piping. to keep the look seamless, i paired the skirt with an equally pretty navy blouse and barely there heels from Lulu's.

what would an outfit be without accessories? i added a hint of color with this jewel tone burgundy clutch from love & sunshine and some silver jewelry like this pretty silver-tone twisted wire cuff with pave orbs from INPINK.

i love love & sunshine's carefully-thought-out coordinating linings...cute right? plus, the clutch is generously sized to fit all your essentials and can be folded over or left open (flat).

do you like navy blue?

the cowl neck sweater.

turtleneck sweaters are perfect for fall's chilly weather. i love the look of them and found this sleeveless sweater to be a great alternative for our warmer weather. unfortunately, turtlenecks can be overwhelming on petite frames and can actually make us look shorter, so here are a few easy ways to make it work:

1. instead of a true turtleneck, opt for a cowl neck. it drapes at the chest and lengthens the body.
2. pair it with fitted pants that are slightly wider at the bottom to balance the fullness at the neck.
3. or, pair the oversized sweater with shorts (if you're covered up on top, it's ok to show some skin on the bottom,
and vice versa).
4. keep the look simple and unfussy.
skip the statement jewelry and let the neckline be the focus.

are you a fan of turtlenecks?
how do you make it work for you?

fall 2014 trends. knits.

fall trends are always bittersweet for me, because while i love (hearing) everyone's excitement over layering up, rocking leather, and wearing boots, we just don't have that kind of weather in hawaii. i'm not complaining, though...after all, i can rock a bikini in december. can you? haha, kidding.

one of my favorite things to wear, sweaters, is back this fall in oversized proportions. in muted colors from head to toe...cozy is in. to make them wearable in our warm weather, i'll be pairing mine with denim cut-offs and lightweight denim. how will you be rocking your sweaters this fall?

here are some of my favorite styles:
