a soft spring palette.

soft grays, muted pinks, and rose gold [shoes] just seem right for warm spring days. it truly feels like a hump day...need to find energy to get through this day and finish off the week. i have a fun weekend ahead which will include a little bit of exercise, getting wet, a lot of eating, and tasting some new drinks. tell you all about it soon!

by the way, anyone on snapchat? i literally just signed up yesterday to see what it's all about and hopefully get it all figured out before the weekend. leave me your username so i can find ya - i'm rockoomph.

casual leopard.

countdown to the weekend, and i can't wait.
last weekend, a big storm rolled in, and we didn't get to do everything we had planned. i'm hoping to make up for it this weekend. every summer, i like to incorporate a mauka to makai (mountain to sea) theme, where we try to spend equal time mauka (hiking or other nature activities) and makai (beach or pool/waterpark). this summer has been makai all the way. i'm a little bummed that i haven't hiked once, so i hope to get one in before summer ends.

what's something you were hoping to do this summer?
do you have a summer theme?

feather lite.

on saturday, i went to the grand opening of Patty's Closet's newest location here in hawaii. after months of working with the brand, i finally had the chance to meet Patty. she is down to earth and just as pretty in person as she is in all of her instagram photos. you can check her out here.

the store was filled with lots of cute stuff, but the only things i had on my mine were loose and cool. in this summer heat, the last thing i want to put on is anything heavy and fitted. i loved the bright print and color of this top, and it fit the bill of being cool and breezy. i'm wearing it with parachute pants that are equally cool and loose-fitting. on the weekends, i'll definitely be throwing this top over my denim cut-offs.

how do you stay cool in the summer?

east vs west [coast] style. white denim.

a week of white denim continues with our final week of east vs west [coast] style. we are all rocking styles by Paige Denim. i've never owned a pair of Paige denim, so i was excited to try the Skyline Ankle Peg Skinny in Optic White. i was nervous about ordering a new brand without being able to try it on...in white, no less, the most unforgiving color...but they fit like a dream. they are true to size and the denim is nice and thick. the last thing you want when wearing white denim is to show too much!

i hope you enjoyed this spring 2014 edition of east vs west style as much as we enjoyed putting it together. i loved seeing how the other girls interpreted the trends. a huge thank you to all of our amazing sponsors - Lulu's, Capwell & Co., Sole Society; and Paige Denim.

when i hear the term whites and brights, i usually think yellows and oranges and neons. here i went for the primary colors like red and blue and a touch of green to brighten up these white jeans.

east vs west [coast] style. lace.

lace. it never seems to go out of style and reappears every season in some shape or form. the best thing about lace is that it is totally wearable for everyone. you can go for a girly look like Ashley (Golden Divine) did, toughen it up with a masculine piece like Jackie and Tracy, or wear it in small doses like me, Ashley (Pursuit of Shoes), and Meaghan. but one thing is for sure, lace always lends a romantic vibe.
how do you wear lace?

sometimes i dabble in extreme lace just for the fun of it, but the tomboy in me never feels 100% comfortable. instead, i like my lace in small doses or as accents. this sweater was right up my alley because it's essentially a versatile gray sweater from the front with a peek of lace in the back. to keep it cool in our warm weather, i paired it with some denim shorts and threw my hair up into a bun.

east vs west [coast] style. pastels.

when we think of spring trends, pastels always top the list and are most often represented by pink, blue, yellow, and green. i thought i'd have to do some convincing with my choice of peach, but check out the west coasters...all peach, haha! and i love that the east coasters are rocking pinks and blues, because you can never go wrong with the classics. how will you be wearing pastels this spring? what color will you be rocking?

i never really thought of peach as a pastel, but i have been loving it so much lately...on my lips, on my cheeks, and in my clothing choices. this dress combines two of my current favorites...peach and tropical prints. the busy print works perfectly for the simple shape of this dress and reminds me of sand and beaches. and since the dress and bag are light-colored neutrals, i wore these super cute black sandals for
a bit of contrast.

east vs west [coast] style. neon.

yowza...it's bright in here!
this week we're rocking neon, and nothing says bright like neon. these bright colors are bold enough to stand on their own, or pair them with another bright color if you dare. looking to tone it down? keep it casual and pair it with neutrals. the great thing about neon is that it's truly wearable. introduce bright colors into your wardrobe with small doses like a belt, scarf, or bag. hope you find some inspiration here, because spring loves brights!

daylight doesn't accurately portray the brightness of these hi-lighter yellow shorts. while i'm not afraid to rock this bold color, i also love the flip side of pairing brights with neutrals. i've been slowly growing my collection of tees, and this creamy Paradise Lost tee felt like the perfect match for these shorts. plus, it is uber soft and comfortable!
long time readers know that i have a favorite gold ring very similar to this one. i am so happy to have this one in silver.

i was worried this bag was going to be huge and heavy, but it's the perfect size. absolutely loving the style and color.

east vs west [coast] style. festival.

festival season is almost upon us. while i've never had the privilege of attending one, i've seen pictures...and boy does it look fun. this week, the girls and i are rocking our festival looks with the help of Lulu's and Capwell + Co. the first things that come to mind are flowy dresses, denim shorts, and boots. turns out, the rest of the girls think so, too! my main concern at a festival (besides looking cute!) would be comfort, and from what i've seen, anything goes!

by our looks, it's obvious that comfy shoes are a must for all the walking we'd be doing, as well as light layers to keep us cool/warm throughout the day. what would you wear or have you worn to a festival?

i'm wearing my trusty denim shorts and ankle boots for comfort as well as a lightweight sweater that's cool enough during the day and warm enough at night. i definitely want to be hands-free, so a just-big-enough bag is a necessity. for fun, i threw in my bobby glam hair extensions for some length, added some loose waves, and pinned up the sides.
this beautiful necklace is perfect for a festival look. i layered it with a feathered necklace to create a fun boho vibe.
