pretty little things.

with summer's heat and humidity upon us, i'm keeping things light and airy these days. denim cut-offs + converse keep it beachy and casual while sheer blouses + pretty peek-a-boo lace bralettes keep it feminine.

you can find lots of great summery deals at nordstrom's anniversary sale. if you are a nordstrom cardholder, get early access and first dibs on sale items now. not a cardholder? it's ok! take a sneak peek now and shop from july 22nd.

what are you wearing to stay cool this summer?
are you a nordstrom cardholder?
if so, what do you pick up during the sale?

a week of yellow. inspiration.

yellow comes in all shades from light to bright. if yellow isn't your color [to wear], try an accessory to add a pop of color to your outfit or your home.

are you lovin' yellow yet?

a week of high-waisted shorts. cardigan.

finishing off this week of high-waisted shorts with a look i love. again, playing with the short and long proportions, a simple white tank tucked into high waisted shorts is topped with a statement red plaid blanket cardigan that is oh-so-fall. the black and silver accessories adds a bit of edge to the outfit.

hope you enjoyed this 'week of'...
did you have a favorite look?

a few tips for wearing high-waisted shorts:
- keep them looser and longer (i like at least a 2.5" inseam)
- when tucking in shirts, layer a longer piece over it to balance the short torso
- shorter the shorts, lower the heels

[oomph] worthy: metallic tattoos.

with tiny wrists, it's always been a challenge to find a great arm stack. while i have found a few gems throughout the years, i've missed out on popular favorites, like the pave link bracelet, because they were too big. still want that one, tho!

Metallic Tattoos

metallic tattoos burst onto the fashion scene recently, and it took me a while to jump on the bandwagon...i mean, temporary tattoos? i like 'em real, haha! but curiosity got the best of me, and i ordered a pack from flash tattoos.

i have been wearing them non-stop. i throw on a few at a time and love the way they have been filling the void in my arm stacks.

some of the tattoos are gold and silver which is a great way to ease into mixing metals. my favorite has been throwing on a few skinny gold and silver bracelets...along with the metallic tattoos, it's almost like having a full stack of bracelets. #winning

it's also great for when i'm running.
um, who wears jewelry when they're exercising? i do. i can still wear jewelry without the jingling and jangling!

have you tried metallic tattoos?

a week of summer shorts + shoes pairings. flats.

the last pairing for this 'week of' is short shorts and flats. pretty sandals are the easiest way to dress up denim cut-offs, even if you are wearing shorts and a tee. plus, it's a great way to show off those manicured feet and bright summery polish. i paired my denim with yet another button up; dressier material, but the short sleeves keep it appropriate for these frayed shorts.

and if your hair is anything like mine, it's a tangled mess after the beach. but those salty tresses are the perfect texture for creating a low chignon. the messier the better. and with that, you're ready for lunch or a matinee.

key chains.

it's been a while since i've had an actual key chain. i once used key holders or coin purses that could hold my ID, credit cards, and money until a friend told me that i was ruining my car's ignition with my heavy key chain. so i removed my car key from the rest and have been carrying them around separately like this ever since. i'm afraid i'll one day lose my car key.

so...i'm leaning towards a bright pom pom, because it's light yet substantial enough that i could feel for it and find it in my bag. plus, it's just cute.

what's your key chain style? what are you currently carrying?

btw, there is some truth to what my friend said. eight keys or less and you're fine. anything more (or key chain/charms equivalent in weight) and you can prematurely wear down the ignition switch resulting in intermittent starting problems.

i still have the dealer tag on my car key!
i think it's time for a key chain.

currently craving: statements & boatnecks

last year, i was all about simplifying.
when it came to accessories, i traded chunky for dainty necklaces and rings, and simplified my arm candy. and while i still love dainty pieces, i'm kinda missing those bigger pieces.

in the past couple of weeks, as i've been going through my jewelry, i realized two things:
1) i have a void for big, colorful, bib necklaces...
and
2) i don't have the right necklines to show off those statement pieces...i've acquired a lot of collared shirts over the past year, and i've always preferred v-necks to other necklines.

i personally like when a statement necklace hangs partly over the neckline of your shirt. compared with crew necks and scoop necks, boatnecks are a nice compromise because it provides enough backdrop for these pieces while still showing some skin.

what are you currently craving?

fashion to fitness.

"it's only $1 per mile."
that's all it took for me to sign up for the honolulu marathon.
never mind that fact that it is twenty. six. miles.

i was at my friend's house for dinner one night, and somewhere between hellos and a couple drinks later, i was all in. we have been talking about training for the 8.15 mile great aloha run coming up in february, so what's another 18 miles?
but seriously, despite all my anxieties and fears about finding the time to stick to a training schedule, i'm excited. i told mini-she that i was going from fashion to fitness this year...that i was going to live and breathe fitness. trade in my stilettos for nikes, my necklaces for a pedometer, my skinny jeans for compression pants.
she's not convinced.
but look. my first marathon-training purchase...a hat to shield my face from the sun when i'm running all those miles.

just a warning that in six months, this blog may turn into a documentation of how i ran my first marathon. haha.

Fitness

and a few other things i plan to pick up along the way:
- a pedometer to track my workout miles
- lightweight sunglasses
- sunscreen
- new running shoes
- swimsuit for those cross-training workouts
- workout clothes

have you completed a marathon?
if not, do you have the desire to?

say it with a [graphic] tee.

i've always had a love-hate relationship with t-shirts,
because the fit, material, and length have to be just right. and while i never used to wear much of them, they have been at the top of my wishlist recently for several reasons:
1) they are great layering pieces
2) they are versatile; can be dressed up or down
3) they are comfortable
in particular, neutral colors (especially grays) with simple sayings or graphics have been on my radar. i recently ordered this one from madewell only to find that it is back ordered until january! so i was ecstatic to [coincidentally] receive this one from my friends over at sisters marie. we didn't get a full length picture, but i am wearing my sole society skylar boots. the collage shows a couple ways i will be wearing my tees.

do you wear tees? do you keep them casual or dress them up?

rock the maxi.

ok, i can't stop thinking about this white maxi skirt.
i tried one on this past weekend, but it was a little loose. totally do-able, but i knew there was a smaller size out there. so i left without it and can't help but think i made a mistake not getting it. to the point where i might have to sneak out at lunch and get it.
urgh.
in the meantime, i'm daydreaming about how i'll wear it.
can ya see it?
totally me, right?
right?
are you saying i should sneak out and get it?
hehe.
