marathon chronicles 05. feeling the burn[out].

i am starting to feel the burn...out!

i was warned not to start training too early, because i could risk injury and/or get burned out. however, my first run of the year was in february, so i began training in january and have been running ever since.

i haven't stopped running, i've just been running less days and shorter distances. i'm still excited about running, but at the same time, it's been easier to skip days. summer was a great excuse.

june was the official start of my marathon training program. now, at the end of july, i'm almost two months behind. not gonna lie, i'm starting to panic. just a little. i have to dramatically increase my mileage as well as hit the pavement (vs. the treadmill).

my next run is coming up on august 10th, 9 miles.

maybe a new pair of running shoes will give me motivation.
just kidding.

these are a couple of sports bras i've been loving; both are from forever 21. they provide moderate support which is enough for the 3-5 mile runs i've been doing, but i'll definitely need ones with more support for my upcoming longer runs.

what i've been obsessed with lately?
honey vanilla chamomile tea + almond milk.

based on another runner's recommendation to mix [chocolate flavored] protein powder with warm almond milk (a post-run drink that helps her muscles recover and replace protein lost during runs), i picked up almond milk to try. not bad.

but since i'm not taking protein supplements yet, i was left to finish the rest of this almond milk. it's not uncommon for me to add milk to my tea, so i used the almond milk. YUM! i look forward to it every night. can't get enough of it. plus, almond milk is loaded with calcium and vitamins A-D-E.

do you have a sports bra (brand) that you love?
have you tried almond milk?

currently craving: statements & boatnecks

last year, i was all about simplifying.
when it came to accessories, i traded chunky for dainty necklaces and rings, and simplified my arm candy. and while i still love dainty pieces, i'm kinda missing those bigger pieces.

in the past couple of weeks, as i've been going through my jewelry, i realized two things:
1) i have a void for big, colorful, bib necklaces...
and
2) i don't have the right necklines to show off those statement pieces...i've acquired a lot of collared shirts over the past year, and i've always preferred v-necks to other necklines.

i personally like when a statement necklace hangs partly over the neckline of your shirt. compared with crew necks and scoop necks, boatnecks are a nice compromise because it provides enough backdrop for these pieces while still showing some skin.

what are you currently craving?

see thru you.

this is the post that blogger deleted. sorry to have lost all your wonderful comments.

 had an unexpected morning off,
so i did a little drug store shopping.
love coming home with random things i don't really need. if you read my 'about me' to the right, you'll know that i love red vines. surprisingly, i've never bought grape vines. the smell and taste reminded me of grape flavored bubble yum bubble gum...which i used to love. brain was a little confused swallowing something that smelled and tasted like gum.
strange, i know.

i bought this skirt a few months ago, but have never worn it. i love it, but just wish the entire skirt was lined. the fact that it only has mini shorts underneath kind of takes it out of the usual rotation, as i could never wear this to work.
my hope is to eventually line it.
i know denim + leopard is sort of a fashion cliche,
but they just work so well together.

hand me some color.

i'm still sick, guys.
second week of major sinus pressure headaches,
fever, and body aches.
and, my inflamed sinuses are causing my upper teeth to hurt.
(yes, my dentist told me!)
that said, i've been too achey to get creative with
outfits this week.
today, for example, a pink floral skirt with a
pink shirt to match.
totally uninspiring, i know. bear with me.
by the way, typical forever 21 skirt...wrinkled, stretched out, and lost its shape by mid-day.

let's focus on the nails, shall we?
with all this talk about color blocking,
i was inspired to do some.
my wardrobe may be lacking in the color department,
but my box of polishes isn't.

flora and fauna.

saturday was a helluva day.
really hadn't planned to do much since i was still
feeling sick...just the usual morning routine.
well, it turned out to be one of those spur-of-the-moment days
where things just kept coming up.
a bajillion pics to follow.

10:00 am
waited around for mini-she while she was at her morning class, then had lunch.
some current faves...leopard + feathers.
floppy hats.
and, stacking bracelets of all sorts.
(shirt, f21; shorts, billabong)

2:00 pm
decided to check out pali lookout.
it was such a hot day, that it was nice to come up here and feel the cool breeze.
plus, the views are ahhhmazing.
beyond this sign is the old pali road. it's now a trail.
felt so jungle-y.
i think this is mini-he's blog debut.

3:00 pm
grabbed some frozen yogurt and jamba juice to cool off.

3:45 pm
got a call from my mother who was test driving a new car.
they came by and dropped off the car "mascot".
can you guess what car she got?

6:00 pm
then, my sister called and said they wanted
to eat dinner at the beach.
so we grabbed some food and headed down.
the sunset was beautiful.

9:30 pm
finally home to color eggs.
my masterpiece.
hope you all had a wonderful easter!

higher power.

i've always loved the look of red + white + black.
alone, red commands attention.
together, these three colors make for a
bold combination that is always striking.
i took it up a notch and added one of my favorites...leopard.
definite power house.

what is your power house combination?

thanks to all the lovelies who left sweet comments on yesterday's guest post.

thru the eyes of a fish.

i wasn't planning on an outfit post today,
as i've been feeling sick since this weekend's activities.
my sinuses are inflamed, so i'm all stuffed up.
but my nose is still runny and driving me crazy.
in short, i look horrible.
but...
my fisheye lens attachment came today, so i had to try it out.
only had a few minutes to snap some shots while out on an errand.
will definitely be playing around with this more.
