a week of summer whites. textures 01.

with summer officially over, we had a big blowout at the beach house this weekend. some friends are in town, too, so it was one big slumber party. mini-she cooked for us all weekend...chocolate chip banana pancakes + bacon + eggs for breakfast, steak + sauteed onions for dinner, snicker doodles + homemade ice cream for dessert...the eating [and drinking] never stopped. plus, the weather was perfect for the multiple trips we made to the beach. we also escaped the heat for a quick trip to the movies (if anyone saw disney planes fire & rescue, windlifter was definitely my fave).

with your summer skin a few shades darker, lighter clothing shades amplify your glowing skin. so we're bidding summer farewell with a week of summer whites. when wearing all white (or all black) use texture to add interest to your outfits.

are you (or your kids) back in school?
what will you miss most about summer?

love these bic flame disks! a super easy alternative to charcoal that was perfect for making s'mores.
peace out, summer!

a week of animals. horses and dogs.

round em up! there really are dogs in the print.
i pointed one out in the close-up.
you can read all about this horse print dress and see it actually worn as a dress here. it's a few sizes too big, but i haven't had the guts to cut and alter this vintage dress, so i'm trying it out here as a duster.

so far we've had zebras, deer, horses, and dogs.
can you guess whoooo will be making an appearance next?

(vintage dress, thrifted (horses); black dress, american apparel (buy),
shoes, nine west (buy))

flowers and lace.

oh the trials and tribulations of trying to post a video.
i'm hoping i'm not that technologically challenged...maybe i just don't have the right tools? for one, i don't have a you tube [or similar] account. and two, i don't have an actual
video camera. i'm using an ipad (MOV files)
if that makes any difference.
so, how do you vloggers do it?
what device do you use to take videos? what programs do you recommend for editing and uploading? any helpful tips?

my closet is pretty dim (ok, i'm too lazy to change that flickering bulb). when i pull out this blazer all i see is a black blazer, and i usually put it back. it wasn't until i looked at the photos that i realized it had some pretty details, especially in the back.

the right answer.

being that i'm only 5'-2" (5'-3" on my driver's license),
i will wear heels wherever and whenever possible.
and, if the world were a sex and the city movie set, i'd happily run around in shorts and high heels as carrie did.
unfortunately, it's not, and certain occasions call for something a bit more casual. when oxfords hit the blogosphere, i thought they would be my answer to a casually chic shoe. i set out to find a pair only to find them too pointy, too rounded, too manly, too...too...flat.
it was casual, it was chic, and most importantly, it had height.
they didn't have my size, of course, so i scoured the internet for the next best option and found these on ebay.

this weekend, i also lucked out at this cute little
vintage-thrift shop called, sugarcane.
i found this amazing ring and a vintage horse-print dress!
the ring is missing many stones,
but it was my size and i couldn't pass it up.
the dress wasn't my size, but i couldn't pass it up either.

slather your veggies.

not sure why i'm drawn to suspenders,
but i thought this denim get up was a fun, updated version.

ok, i admit i bought this yes to carrots moisturizer
only because it said oomph.
but it does have SPF, and i'm a sucker for anything with SPF.
plus, i've seen this brand around and have always been intrigued by the simplicity of its clean white packaging and burst of orange.
i finally had a chance to read up on it, and it seems to be good stuff. there's also yes to blueberries, cucumbers, and tomatoes.
this hydrating lotion is super thick, almost like clay. normally, i hate the heaviness of lotions like these, but i wasn't bothered much by this one. it's also odorless, so you can still wear your perfume without clashing scents.
have you tried yes to carrots?

a safer thrift.

i mentioned before that i'm not much of a thrifter, because
1) we don't really have any shops here, and
2) the ones that we do have aren't on my daily path of travel.
sadly, i only venture out to these places on october 30th when i'm desperate for a halloween costume. but that's when i found my now favorite leopard blouse, here.
still, i'm amazed at what people find while thrifting, so i decided to make the trek.
ok, i really love the idea of thrifting, but it's kind of like shopping at...ross. racks and racks of stuff thrown together; it's overwhelming. a few blouses at this place were a bit sketchy...i mean, check it below - one of them even had someone's lunch from who knows when?!

this fabulous blouse, on the other hand, didn't require any travelling, nor did it come with dinner. just a few clicks at stilettos and diaper bags' shop my closet section, and it was all mine. i must confess that i find a bit of comfort in knowing exactly who was wearing the stuff before.

on that note, i've been working on the [marketplace.] and hope to get the first round of items up this week.

a blouse with a side of rice? no thank you.

colored.

i love all the colored denims out there but never thought i could pull them off. especially not red.
years ago i purchased a pair of orange skinnies from versace while on a vegas vacation. they didn't get much wear then, but i wish i had them now. i'm hoping that i wasn't silly enough to throw them out and that i'll eventually find them in the motherload.
determined to find some green denim, i headed to f21 this weekend. to my disappointment they only had...yup, red. i wasn't leaving without colored denim...so red it was.
