funny story.

yesterday i went to Kona for work. i was wearing my new favorite earrings - the pearl 360 studs from BaubleBar.

after i got off the plane, i went to the bathroom, and as i was walking out, a guy grabbed me and said, "miss, are you wearing pearl earrings?"

i wasn't sure where he was going with this question, whether he was inquiring about them or what, but i instinctively reached up to feel my earrings and said, "yes, i am."

he went on to explain that he had found an earring on the plane ramp and left it with the agent at the gate. i realized that my left earring was indeed missing, so i thanked him and headed back to the gate.

when i got to the gate, they presented me with the (smaller pearl) earring only, and i thought (but actually said out loud), "awww, only one?" i tried to explain to the guy that the backing (the bigger pearl) was missing and asked if he could take a look around since i couldn't go back on the tarmac.

mind you, there were tons of onlookers waiting for the next flight, and i had two agents looking for my earring! but it wasn't just any backing; it was the big pearl! i could hear the two agents saying how it could have fallen off anywhere, that they'd never find it.

so i thanked them and left, pouting inside...bummed about my short-lived earrings.

i went on with my day, finished work, grabbed lunch...

yummy oriental chicken salad from Buns in the Sun.

...went to the bathroom to wash up before heading back to the airport.

i noticed in the mirror that my shirt button came undone. i looked down to button it, and what did i see nestled in my cleavage??? the big pearl backing!

those agents were certainly right...
they were never going to find that backing!

moral of the story:
missing something? check the cleavage.

a week of summer shorts + shoes pairings. mid heels.

most of my denim shorts fall into this range of 2-4 inch inseams and are, for me, the hardest to dress up. normally, i'd grab a pair of sneakers or loafers, which would be fine for lunch or coffee after the beach. but if i wanted a dressier option for cocktails or dinner, i'd pair these shorts with mid-height heels (2-3"). i'd stay away from lighter denim and frayed edges which would be too casual for heels, in my opinion.

the shorts i had in mind for this pairing was actually mid-thigh length...but on this day, they were suddenly too big. maybe from my marathon-training running?? but you get the idea. mid-thigh = mid-heels.

so after cruising the beach in your bikini and denim shorts, throw on an easy button-up, ditch the beach tote for a cute bag, and you're ready for happy hour.

are you comfortable wearing heels with shorts?

sheer + studded.

getting out the door in the mornings has become quite the chore because of two things. juice and water. a few months ago, i caved and bought a TIGER stainless steel [water] bottle. depending on the style and size, these bottles can cost up to $60...but they are the bomb! it keeps my water cold all day. and, if i didn't eat them all, i'd still have tons of ice at the end of the day. it went on sale for $29 at my local drugstore, so i grabbed a couple. on a rare occasion, it goes on sale for $19, but you better be first in line when they open if you want one; they go fast. i figured i could take them on my hikes, but i now bring it to work everyday. the water just tastes good coming out of the bottle (maybe psychological!), and i can easily drink the liter throughout the day (whereas before i didn't drink any water while at work)

i also started juicing in the morning. i try to drink it at home, but i usually don't have time to finish it all.

so...in addition to my coffee, i'm now carrying a
water bottle and a cup of juice.

and...that's in addition to my bag, my makeup bag,
and my lunch bag.

and...on occasion, i'll have my camera bag.

anyone else have this problem?

water, juice, and coffee...every morning.
yes, the paint is coming off my coffee cup, but i haven't found any other that is as spill-proof as this one. i've even dropped it, full of coffee, and the lid stayed on!

maxi + metallics.

it was must-have at first sight with this bag. with skulls, studs, and this perfectly neutral pewter color...what's not to love? plus, it perfectly balances the femininity of this pretty lace dress. and we all love a good juxtaposition.
both are from Patty's Closet.

ever since signing up for the marathon, i've been obsessed with all things fitness. i've been reading up on everything from running shoes to performance nutrition to training schedules. i'm even feeling a bit like forrest gump, wanting to put on my running shoes and just run everywhere. if only mini-he could keep up. sigh. i guess the treadmill will have to do for now.

happy aloha friday!
