a week of white denim. black + white.

since i've been enjoying these Paige Denim skinny jeans, i'll be remixing them the rest of the week. yesterday, i paired them with primary brights. today it's a black and white look with some prints and textures. a black blazer may seem too heavy and dark for a spring look, but this fun blazer from Patty's Closet lightens up the look by allowing some skin to peek through.

i went to the bruno mars concert earlier this week, and it was awesome. despite the bomb threat interruption at the beginning of the concert, it was an amazing show full of lights and pyrotechnics.

we arrived about an hour before the concert only to be greeted by a long line just to get in the doors. so we decided to grab drinks instead. of course, all the surrounding restaurants were packed because everyone was doing the same thing...but standing with a drink is still better than just standing in line. besides, it started to clear out as the concert started. we knew there were two opening acts, so we hung out a little longer and enjoyed as much expensive drinks as we could before having to get really expensive drinks at the concert, haha.

whenever i run out of shows to watch on netflix, i'll browse random videos...and i happened to come across a few in which girls were applying makeup...those 'get ready with me' videos. the transformations were pretty amazing. actually, what's amazing was all the products they had to use to achieve those looks. i can't imagine having to go through all of those steps, but i guess that's why they look good!

while most of their applications wouldn't work for my single asian eyelids, these videos are a great source for new products to try. they also motivated me to go thru my products and use them. i love buying products, but then they tend to sit and never get used. i just found a bag of elf products that i bought a while ago and never used...so that was exciting. haha.

the jaguar pant.

it's tempting to want to pair animal prints with black, because it's a sure thing. for those who are still easing their way into animal prints, it's safe. and on days when i don't have time to put too much thought into what i'm wearing, i also reach for black. but if you really want to add oomph to your outfit, go for color. any color. i've proven that you can even wear navy with leopard. some of my all-time favorite color pairings are with red (here) and emerald (here). today i'm pairing these jaguar print pants from Patty's Closet with hot pink. yeeeeow!

even though i'm working on this martin luther king, jr. holiday, a great weekend was had. i spent most of it hanging out at the beach house + a baby shower...which translates to lots of good eats. however, i did manage to get in a couple workouts, too. btw, i'm keeping track of my workouts via dailymile; you can view the latest at the bottom of my sidebar. eventually that and other fitness/marathon related news will be moved to its own page.

welcome to week two of east vs west style.

today, we are tackling leather. leather is a trend that i absolutely love, because it's edgy and tough. unfortunately, i don't get to wear it often, because it's too hot here. thanks to Lulu's for providing us with this amazing burgundy vegan-leather jacket. since only the sleeves are leather, it's totally

 do-able in our warmer temps. i couldn't wait to see how the rest of the ladies styled their jackets...i love how there ended up being a mix of dresses, shorts, and pants.

happy mid-autumn festival.

while i am part chinese, i never really partook in festival activities; to be honest, i don't even know the meaning behind it. an old employee and friend [who moved back to taiwan] is here on vacation and brought some delicious mooncakes making this a good time to learn about it. here's what i found out:

- mid-autumn festival or chinese moon festival is one

of the most important festivals for the chinese people;

it's an official holiday.

- ancient chinese believed the movement of the moon played an important role in the changing of seasons and agricultural production. they worshiped the moon and gave offerings

of thanks for successful crops.

- round shape of the mooncake symbolizes reunion of family. eating mooncakes together with family and enjoying the moon at its fullest is an important part of the festival.

welcome to the east vs. west [coast] style collaboration.

i decided to give this leopard romper a fun spin by pairing it with a striped skirt. the romper's belt, tied like a sash, was wide enough to cover most of the skirt's black waistband...gives it a more seamless look. completed the look with an emerald necklace and these ah-mazing shoes from JustFab.
