a week of spring dressing. print mixing.

with mini-he's birthday festivities last week, i didn't have a chance to post this for a week of spring dressing. we always see tons of print mixing for spring. instead of the usual stripes and florals, i opted for polka dots and camouflage.

what print combos have you been rocking this spring?

the varsity jacket.

who knew i'd own another varsity jacket post high school?
thanks to a buy one, get two free promo, i now own this quilted varsity jacket. at least it's much more fashionable and flattering than my high school one. the black and white is fresh and crisp and will work well for all seasons. i'm thinking it'll be perfect with winter whites, just the right edgy juxtaposition to spring pastels and prints (like these polkas), and a sporty cover-up for tees and denim cutoffs on chilly summer nights. btw, how super cute is this polka dot dress from Patty's Closet?

this weekend was all about mini-she. after months of late night rehearsals, her school play finally came to life...and she did a wonderful job. they all did. kudos to her teacher who did an awesome job directing the play.

do you have a wardrobe piece that works for all seasons?

polka dots and cargo.

it's sweater mania at Patty's Closet.
i was beyond happy when i walked into Patty's Closet [Mililani Town Center] on friday. they were stocked with two of my favorites...sweaters and plaid. i may or may not have left with two or more. and, i usually wouldn't go for polka dots, but these oversized dots were too fun to pass up.

i tried a new restaurant that recently opened near my house. my friends recommended the eggs benedict, so i ordered the traditional. it was good. plated very simple with potatoes that were equally good. will definitely be going back. just wish they had better stronger coffee.

how was your weekend?
do you love sweaters or plaid?

florals dots and a mini icon.

i'm in love.
again.
with this...mini icon bag.
it's cute and just so, well...mini.
yet, it has three compartments inside, plus pockets on both sides, and a zippered pocket on the outside to keep all of your things organized. if you are looking for a structured and
stylish bag that won't break your back, this. is. it.
it also comes with a shoulder strap should you feel
the need to go hands-free.

did anyone catch the season premiere of tia and tamera?
if so, what'd you think?

love old navy? stay tuned for a great giveaway
coming up tonite.

took the minis to see the butterflies. i was a little disappointed because i hoped thought they'd be flyin' around
and landing on my head...but they didn't. haha.
i did learn a few things:
-they like warmer temperatures,
otherwise they'll go into hibernation
-they eat bananas and oranges with their straw-like tongue
-no matter how many times people are told NOT to touch the butterflies, they will still touch the butterflies.

a week of leopard accents. belt.

long time readers know that i love leopard. anything leopard.
i love to incorporate it into every outfit, when possible, even if it's something small. comments i hear most often from people are that it's too bold for them, or they don't know how to wear leopard but wish they could. well, you can! if wearing leopard clothing makes you feel uncomfortable, start with accessories. this week is all about incorporating small doses of leopard
into your outfits.

one of the easiest and least intimidating ways to incorporate leopard into your outfit is with a skinny belt. here, i also played with denim on denim by pairing a solid denim with a patterned one. the polka dots break up the denim, and the belt further distinguishes the top from the bottom.

for the weekend, try a leopard belt with:
black tee + denim shorts + flat sandals

for the office, try a leopard belt with:
black sheath dress + cardigan + black heels

hooded jacket + brussel sprout salad.

say you buy a jacket because it's better than or slightly different from the previous one(s) you purchased...but you continue to wear the previous one(s). is that still considered a quest to find the right jacket? or is it a jacket obsession? i originally wanted a green military/surplus parka and bought this one, but it wasn't olive green. so i got this one, but it's way too hot. then i found this one, but it's more like a shirt. well, this one came along...love, but it's camo. finally, i stumbled upon this one. it's green, hooded, lightweight, and has a drawstring waist. perfection? or perfect till the next one comes along?

i finally had a chance to make a brussel sprout salad since seeing recipes floating around the blogosphere. after a random google search for recipes, i took bits from a couple different ones depending on what i had in the kitchen, and whatever methods would be the easiest. scroll down for my recipe.

Brussel Sprout Salad
20-25 brussel sprouts
1/2 medium red onion
1/3 c grated parmesan (or pecorino romano)
chopped roasted almonds (or toasted walnuts)
dressing:
4 tbsp olive oil
2 tbsp dijon mustard
2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
1/4 tsp each salt and pepper

remove any bad leaves, cut off the ends, and soak in water.
for the dressing:
simply add all ingredients to a jar, cover, and...
thinly slice red onion and soak in water for 15 minutes.
slice brussels by hand (or mandolin slicer), chop almonds.
toss everything together and serve.
i forgot to take a good picture of the salad,
but here's one from my phone.
i really enjoyed this salad. you could add cranberries for a little sweetness...add anything you want, for that matter. i'm thinking kale would make the ultimate "green" salad.
