a week of work wardrobe basics: black pants.

this week, it's all about work wardrobe basics.
depending on where you live and what you do, your basics may differ, but i've found 12 key pieces that continue to work for me. i'll highlight a few this week and end with the full list.

black dress pants are essential to every wardrobe. they can be worn with practically anything...tees, silk blouses, and sweaters. you can even pair it with a black blazer if a suit is needed.

invest in a well-made pair, and you will always feel confident. choose one that is fitted, structured, and doesn't wrinkle easily. if you must have a stretch wasitband, make sure it's a thicker fabric. to elongate your legs, the length should be long enough to cover your shoes without touching the ground. cigarette pants in ankle length also work, but i would save the capris for the weekend.

paired here with a long-sleeved button-down blouse (which is also on my list), and a bright clutch/ipad case for a splash of color.
while i love a good arm stack, i usually streamline for the office. a statement ring, a couple of bracelets, and a simple necklace works for me. you have seen these often on the blog.

Very nice post and I just bought a new pair of black pants that are semi-dressy and also casual and I'm so proud of them because I needed a better fitting pair. I love your top paired with yours here! Hope you are having a good day! xx Pip

I've never worn black pants because I don't know how to style it to look fabulous. Now you make me want to buy one. :D

I absolutely agree. When in doubt - this is when I used to work - I always wore black dress pants. I had something like 10 pairs so I didn't have to visit the cleaner all the time. Yours look great. They show off your amazing figure.

I love that you are doing posts about wardrobe basics. Black pants are definitely a necessity in my closet. I constantly rely on them when I need to pull together a quick professional outfit for work or when I have to be in court representing a client without any notice.

You make black pants look anything but boring! (I said something negative about black pants in my most recent post, but I meant when they're worn in a boring way with a plain ole shirt.)

most places i worked were semi-casual, but i did work in a corporate environment for several years...jeans only on fridays. my office now is kind of business casual, but i still dress up.
