neutral and neon.

what a rainy weekend we had.
the bad? terrible picture weather. in addition to being rainy, it was humid and hot. the good? i saw two musicals which i'll share with you this week.

i loved the feathers and bright neon colors in this top from Persun. it's one of those dressier-than-a-tee shirts that is easy to wear and works well with everything from shorts to denim to pencil skirts. paired it here with a neutral denim which, coincidentally, had neon cuffs.

how's the weather in your neck of the woods?

neoprene + zippers.

i took a quick trip to kona on monday for work.
after my work was done, i stopped at the shopping center for lunch and a quick look-around. not much in terms of shopping...only a ross and jeans warehouse, but i did find this skirt which turned out to be quite awesome for its $10 price tag. the front is thick like neoprene, so it fits like a glove and keeps its shape,
and it doesn't ride up at the waist like i expected.

here's what i can tell you about kona:
1) the airport is old school (which i love), no fancy buildings or enclosed jetways. you walk right onto the tarmac and up a ramp.
2) the obvious...it's hot and voggy, but nice wide-open spaces.
3) they've gone green. the cashier asked me if i wanted to buy a bag. i said no, not thinking about what she meant. then she handed my items directly to me...to put in my own bag. ok, got it!
the good: they are going green
the bad: hard to keep track of your items. either one of the shirts i bought fell out of my bag, or she didn't give
it to me at all. kinda bummed.

driving along the main highway, this is what you see...
my purchases stuffed in my own bag...#gogreen.

violet crumble.

no better way to add oomph to a simple all black outfit than with bright accessories. this bright green satchel certainly packs a punch. a hint of leopard never hurts either.

my sister brought back this freeze-dried ice cream from the smithsonian air and space museum. i'm sure not everyone likes this, but i loved it. maybe because its texture reminded me
of my absolute favorite candy bar, violet crumble...
honeycomb goodness covered with chocolate.
i can't find them anywhere these days.

have you tried violet crumble? what's your favorite candy bar?

titanic form.

can you believe the news about the italian
cruise ship that went down?
talk about modern day titanic...
a catastrophe of titanic proportions.
some good news, on the other hand, is that i finally received a package that someone sent me in november! after my asos incident, i can't say i'm surprised.
guess that's why they call it snail mail.

i'm working on a project at work that has been titanically consuming my time, so i'll be quick here. an outfit from last week when temps were a bit cooler. this week, the humidity is unbearable; stand outside for a few minutes and you're already sticky and sweaty. definitely no layering this week.

plants vs zombies.

are you in the know?
all the cool kids are doing it.
i'm hooked on mini-she's game, plants vs. zombies.
at first, i thought it was the biggest waste of time. ever.
basically, zombies are trying to get into your house and
eat your brains, so you plant plants and other
obstables in your yard to ward them off.
mini-he wanted to try, and while i usually just let him fiddle, i found myself "helping" him fight off the zombies. next thing mini-she knew, i had created my own player
and surpassed her on the levels.
i didn't mean to, but the zombies keep comin' at-cha!

i decided to throw all my ziggedy zag stuff at you all at once.
no more after this.

green tea and gemstones.

i love this cool palette of greens + blues.
i was just experimenting with my nails last night as i wasn't sure how many blue and green polishes i owned. luckily, mini-she had a few, so there was enough to play around with. i may get rid of the dark blue on my ring finger and replace it with the green on my thumb for a more consistent palette.
you can check out my red + coral nails here.
the rest coincidentally fell into place...the green sweater which fell off the shelf a few days ago and was sitting on the ground in my closet, the green bag i had in the car, and the green tea kit kats a client brought back from japan. so yum.

thank you...
for the sweet comments and encouragement on mini-she's guest post; she was ecstatic and even wrote up another post already.
for voting for my photo in the previous post.

friday on the brain.

it was just one of those days.
too much friday on the brain.
couldn't think of anything else except the fact that it was friday and a three day weekend.
other than a graduation on sunday night, i'm hoping to exercise like a maniac and soak up the sun while sipping icy treats. speaking of icy treats, today's thai tea
looked scarily...uh, orange?
i swear it looks different all the time;
but still yummy, and thou shalt not waste.

i scored two pairs of barely used shoes from sister #1.
she was getting rid of them, so i graciously took them off her hands and put them on my feet.
here's one of them.

happy aloha friday!

too cool for school.

it doesn't matter how cool you are...
you're not as cool as their friends.
as we gathered in front of the water park entrance for mini-she's field trip, six of her friends wanted to be in my group because i was "the coolest mom".
i was the parent to be with.
we talked about all the rides we would ride and
how much fun we would have together.
we headed to our designated home base area, put our bags down, and i hear the teacher say to the kids, "you may go in groups of four without a chaperone."
the kids ran off so fast...before i even had a chance to say, "wait for me!"
so there i stood. alone.

these pants go against the grain of my usual
flares and floor dragging lengths.
and, to be honest, i felt uncomfortably short and wide in them.
i tried to "fix" them by throwing on a basic white tee and super high heels. can't say i'll be wearing these again,
but at least i tried them.

some of you have been asking for feedback on
the e.l.f. products i recently purchased.
i finally had a chance to try out
this e.l.f. waterproof eyeliner pen.
eyeliner is key for my single asian eyelids.
while i've never had any luck with liquid liners before,
i was pleasantly surprised with this one.
the tip was slightly dry (possibly because it was the first use), making the application really easy and mess-free. the best part about it, compared to my usual pencil liners, is that it looks just as fabulous now, at 5pm, as it did at 7am this morning when i first applied it. no touch-ups needed.
and for one dollar, i'm sold.

put on a good face.

back in april, i won a $25 e.l.f. gift card during a giveaway hosted by oreleona of the pristine notion.
prior to the blogosphere, i had never heard of this brand,
so i was excited to try their things.
i finally got around to ordering, and boy did the $25 go far.
the prices are very reasonable, and with some items as low as a dollar, i was able to spend my card
down to the last penny without going over.
and get free shipping.
and receive my package in three days.
now, that's a good deal.
happy aloha friday!
