fall tweed.

tweed is for fall.

north shore in the winter is raging. we took a quick peek at the waves before grabbing acai bowls on veteran's day.

emerald and topaz.

since i tend to wear a lot of neutrals, i have been making a conscious effort to add colorful pieces to my collection of accessories. plus, accessories are a great way to introduce color in small doses to your wardrobe. this bloomsbury bag in dark green was a no brainer. not only does it work with my favorite neutral, leopard [yes, it's a neutral in my book!], but it's totally on trend with spring's color, emerald.

i was immediately drawn to this blue jade ring. it's eye-catching, and the cool blue stands out against warm neutrals.

reap what you sow.

thanks for all the sweet comments yesterday.
for those who were interested in the cupcake wine, here's
the link (ahem, kim. lol!). the red velvet was good, but my sister opened the bottle a few days prior. i may not have had it at its best, but many of you had positive things to say about it.
i look forward to trying it again.

i love my mom.
but moms will be moms, and they'll parent you till the day they die. i have been known to roll my eyes or turn away while she's talking or not even look up. i know, bad. but what's really bad is when mini-he tells her,
"i don't have to look at you because mom doesn't!"
wow.
kids are receptive to everything that's going on around them whether we like it or not. i expect the minis to become respectful, honest, and responsible adults, and i'm their prime example. so in keeping up with my resolutions, i have been sleeping earlier (no blogging till 1am)...so that i can wake up earlier...so that we can have pleasant mornings...so we can get to school on time. if i don't get to your blog on a daily basis, know that this is why, and i will catch up the next chance i get. as much as i enjoy my late nights and me time, i have to make sacrifices for the minis. after all, we reap what we sow.

pretty boy.

my collection of these collared shirts is growing. this is the latest addition i spoke of earlier. i wanted this pink gingham one and finally found it at net-a-porter. it's a bit snug for my taste, but it was the only size left. i still love it. unfortunately...as quickly as i added it to my favorites, it's already sold out. there's a few sizes available in yellow.
if you like it, hurry and snatch one before they're gone.
i can't seem to find them anywhere.

this is the necklace worn here. i folded it in half and pinned it in the back to make a choker.

looking back at what's ahead.

these photos are from a while back, but i thought it would be appropriate to share them now because they portray a style that i hope to come back to. while i have loved playing with color and prints this summer, i am falling in love with neutrals again. i'm also leaning towards a more simplistic look this fall.

not to worry, i'm not giving up color completely..i'll still dabble in brights whenever an opportunity presents itself.

what are you leaning towards this fall?

toppings.

mini-he started preschool this week...again.
he went to preschool last year and absolutely hated it. he's going to a new school this year and i was feeling apprehensive about the transition...not just for him, but for me as well.
as i expected, he certainly put up a fight.
it's a struggle to get his clothes changed, then to put his shoes on, then to get into the car, then to get inside the preschool gate, then for me to leave...GAH.
as for me, i'm having to plan and make lunches the night before, and trying to get to bed sooner so that i can wake up two hours earlier than i have been.

that said, something had to give, and it's my prep time in the mornings. with only 20 minutes to get myself ready, i've been reaching for top + bottom, relying on the "toppings" to add oomph to my mundane wardrobe this week...
kind of like the icing on a red velvet cupcake.

too cool for school.

it doesn't matter how cool you are...
you're not as cool as their friends.
as we gathered in front of the water park entrance for mini-she's field trip, six of her friends wanted to be in my group because i was "the coolest mom".
i was the parent to be with.
we talked about all the rides we would ride and
how much fun we would have together.
we headed to our designated home base area, put our bags down, and i hear the teacher say to the kids, "you may go in groups of four without a chaperone."
the kids ran off so fast...before i even had a chance to say, "wait for me!"
so there i stood. alone.

these pants go against the grain of my usual
flares and floor dragging lengths.
and, to be honest, i felt uncomfortably short and wide in them.
i tried to "fix" them by throwing on a basic white tee and super high heels. can't say i'll be wearing these again,
but at least i tried them.

some of you have been asking for feedback on
the e.l.f. products i recently purchased.
i finally had a chance to try out
this e.l.f. waterproof eyeliner pen.
eyeliner is key for my single asian eyelids.
while i've never had any luck with liquid liners before,
i was pleasantly surprised with this one.
the tip was slightly dry (possibly because it was the first use), making the application really easy and mess-free. the best part about it, compared to my usual pencil liners, is that it looks just as fabulous now, at 5pm, as it did at 7am this morning when i first applied it. no touch-ups needed.
and for one dollar, i'm sold.
