tgif! it's super bowl weekend, and it's a big deal at our house. i really only look forward to the half time show and commercials, and usually cheer for the underdogs just to make things interesting around here! mini-he and i will decorate the house with team logos and paraphernalia, my dad usually has a pool going on, and there'll be ribs and cold beers on the menu.

i went crazy for elbow patches last year, and i still love them. even better when they are on a classic tweed jacket. this jacket from Patty's Closet [Windward Mall] is a great alternative...it looks like tweed but isn't tweed, making it do-able for the warmer temps we have here.

over the weekend, my friend and i hosted a small holiday shopping event with a few vendors...thirty-one bags, [oomph.], anuhea designs, island keepsakes & island sea salts. there was chocolate and cheese fondue among other things, and an avon beauty bar with tons of samples to try. after the event, we hung out for wine tasting and an amazing steak dinner.

i'm finishing off this week of stripes with some

looks from the archives. this 'a week of' series is a great way for me to assess my wardrobe. i can see what i have enough of, where my voids are, what were worthwhile purchases, and what combinations and styles i tend to repeat. here's what i learned:

1) i have way too many striped dresses.

2) i like to wear stripes with leopard.

3) i have mostly black, white, and navy stripes.

4) i like to wear stripes with cargo vests and military jackets.

for those who were interested in the cupcake wine, here's

the link (ahem, kim. lol!). the red velvet was good, but my sister opened the bottle a few days prior. i may not have had it at its best, but many of you had positive things to say about it.

i look forward to trying it again.

i love my mom.

but moms will be moms, and they'll parent you till the day they die. i have been known to roll my eyes or turn away while she's talking or not even look up. i know, bad. but what's really bad is when mini-he tells her,

"i don't have to look at you because mom doesn't!"

wow.

kids are receptive to everything that's going on around them whether we like it or not. i expect the minis to become respectful, honest, and responsible adults, and i'm their prime example. so in keeping up with my resolutions, i have been sleeping earlier (no blogging till 1am)...so that i can wake up earlier...so that we can have pleasant mornings...so we can get to school on time. if i don't get to your blog on a daily basis, know that this is why, and i will catch up the next chance i get. as much as i enjoy my late nights and me time, i have to make sacrifices for the minis. after all, we reap what we sow.

not mini, not maxi, but just right.

i've been lusting over those accordian pleated midi-skirts for a while now, and i finally came to the realization that they just aren't for me. the full pleats make me look wide, and the just below the knee length makes me look short. i felt this was a nice compromise. it still had enough volume, and the longer, almost maxi length paired with high heels lengthens a bit. plus is flows prettily in the wind, and it's machine washable.

this started off as a background show that played while i was reading blogs. then, i noticed a couple of cast members from current popular shows like pretty little liars and twilight. i always like to see them out of their familiar element. the storyline isn't new...single mom and two daughters trying to make it in the big city, bratty rich kids vs. struggling "scholarship" kids, affairs and failed relationships. everything about the show is a cliche, but i found myself coming back for more predictable twists and mediocre acting.

for keeping me up till 1am, this one gets a:

i have a super-duper busy weekend ahead...

i'm just hoping i have time to squeeze everything in.

we are going trunk or treating tonight and i have yet to put together costumes, and then tomorrow morning we are volunteering at mini-she's school's open house, then booking it to town for her math and reading class, and sunday mini-he has a get-together in the morning, and then i have to shop for halloween stuff and prepare the kids' goodie bags for school, but not before we decorate the yard and house...including carving the pumpkins we bought at the pumpkin patch, and this is also the last weekend before mini-she's birthday on tuesday so i'll need to sneak away at some point to get her present, and find time to take photos for a fun day of pink project taking place on sunday.
