experimenting with extremes. lace.

happy st. patrick's day!
here's a remix of the lace shorts i promised last week. i swapped out the flowy blue shirt for this pretty, minty-green, lace top from Patty's Closet. the scalloped hem worked perfectly with the scalloped lace on the shorts. it's been a while since my last 'experimenting with extremes' post, so i'm considering this as one (even though i like to think 3+ items is extreme). the result of all this lace is super girly and a bit out of my comfort zone, but definitely fun. i truly would love to rock these shorts with a gray sweatshirt and sneakers next time.

just for fun, i've included the leprechaun names i posted last year. tell me in the comments what your name is. i'm sprinkles o'lyin! i'm a bit 'o' irish, so i love to celebrate by wearing green...and we had corned beef and cabbage last week. so yum, couldn't wait!

lastly, the east vs west coast style collaboration is back.
stay tuned tomorrow for our spring 2014 debut.

are you irish?
what's the craziest green thing you've seen on this day?

a week of stripes. extreme.

 today it's all about extremes.
nowadays, it seems like anything goes, as long as you are comfortable wearing it. i've mixed stripes of different colors and sizes, and the mix i like best is one where the stripes are close in size and run in the same direction. this provides some uniformity and is easy on the eye.

are you comfortable mixing stripes?
if so, what's your mix?

cute earrings made by my neighbor.
had lunch with a friend at inferno's wood fire pizza. at her recommendation, i ordered the guava smoked pork pizza: guava smoked pork, fresh mozzarella, mushrooms, maui onions, and kilauea bbq sauce. normally i don't go for sweet, but the flavor wasn't overwhelming. it was pretty good.

experimenting with extremes. blues.

i recently had my first jello shot. i mean, how could i resist when my neighbor served them like cute lemon wedges. after we devoured them, she proceeded to make beverages with the fruit she scooped out by throwing them into vodka + lemonade.
talk about not letting anything go to waste.

i wanted to see how many blue things i could throw into
this outfit. pretty much everything except the shoes. wait...darn...come to think of it, i do have
a pair of blue heels...haha.

looking forward to hanging out at my
friend's beach house this weekend.
what are you guys up to?

vodka-infused gummy bears and jello wedges.

here's a recipe i want to try:
pink lemonade jello shots

12 lemons
1 cup pink lemonade
2 packages plain gelatin
1 cup vodka
cupcake pan
- cut lemons in half, scoop out insides
- add lemonade to saucepan, sprinkle gelatin over juice,
let sit for 2 minutes
- heat lemonade over low heat, stir until gelatin dissolves, about 5 minutes
- stir in vodka, pour into lemons
- refrigerate, about 4 hours
- slice and enjoy

a week of leggings. animal prints.

prints are a great way to camouflage unsightly bumps and bulges that could normally be seen with solid colored leggings. i also think that prints help to visually widen the legs and balance out a loose top. with the addition of my leopard shoes and bag, i think this outfit also falls under my experimenting with extremes: animal prints catagory.

do you have printed leggings?
what's the boldest print you would rock?

experimenting with extremes. florals.

it's the floral blouse again.
i was getting tired of trying to pair it with bright bottoms, figured black would be too boring, and denim just ok. i didn't have the right striped bottom and thought leopard would just be over the top (although, i'm ok with over the top!). that left florals, and i had the perfect skirt to match. the flowers are similar in size, both prints are somewhat watercolor-ish, and both are black-based...which all seemed cohesive in my mind.
i guess this would be my take on the head-to-toe print trend.

this past sunday was absolutely gorgeous. while waiting for mini-she, my friend and i packed our little coolers full of beer, chips and salsa, babybel cheese, and sushi, and headed to the beach park. we took a long walk then enjoyed our
adult beverages while the boys played.

pippa, a travel writer who doesn't see the point of marriage or commitment, is forced to rethink her take on love when she temporarily takes control of her father's wedding magazine. the storyline is predictable, but i like graham and her free-spirited character. overall, a cute movie.

experimenting with extremes. stripes 02.

this was me just playing around in my closet, and for some reason mini-she really liked this combination...so she photographed it. while i couldn't actually wear this to work, scroll down for some stripey goodness that i could.

holiday goodies are beginning to trickle into our office. although i've been eating salads for lunch this week, i tend to think that's justification to indulge in other things. i'm feeling sluggish and yucky. looking forward to the weekend for some much needed exercise. oh, and i just remembered that my nephew came home from college for christmas break today!

do your home or office treats taunt you during the holidays?
or do you have the will power to stay away?

experimenting with extremes. stripes deux.

just a quickie as i'm running out the door
to mini-she's volleyball game.
they won their first game last week, so it's getting exciting.

mini-he had a reaction to his flu shot and ended up with a fever this weekend. i was able to have a night out with some friends...first time in a while. overall, it was a good weekend. hope you all enjoyed yours and look forward to catching up on your blogs this week.
